I would appreciate some suggestions on where and how to mount one of these. I would prefer that it is somewhere in the bed but most of the options I'm seeing are designed for Jeep roll bars.

Do you think it would be safe to drill into my fiberglass topper for something like this:

    upload_2019-6-18_15-28-28.jpg

My backup option would be to mount it on the back of my seat using molle webbing. I would prefer having it outside the cab though. Space is already limited in the backseat.

    upload_2019-6-18_15-33-7.jpg

@SoCalPaul had a good idea with the canopy cage he built but I don't have the time or patience right now to mess with that.

I would like to mount it along this rail if I could but I'm open to other suggestions.

Since it's a double wall bed you coould use + nuts or rivnuts to attach it to the inner bed panel

I have one mounted under the front driver's seat, doesn't get in the way.

Self tappers screwed through your extinguisher bracket and into the side wall of the bed.

Also, I carried a small style extinguisher in my glove box for years. Ain’t got time for that anymore.

Quick fists would work to mount in the bed.

Here's mine in the cab. Self tappers through the hump under the seat.

I made my own bracket and mounted it on the rail in the bed. I cut down some aluminum and bent it into shape. Added some quick fists to it and it worked great. I made a template out of a cardboard strip before so I knew the shape to bend the aluminum.

For under my seat I just added the rough side of some Velcro onto the fire extinguisher. It was the sticky type the peeled off like a sticker. Once it was stuck on the extinguisher I placed it under my drivers seat and the Velcro sticks really well to the carpet. Doesn’t budge. Super easy.

Sorry I don’t have a photo of the front seat extinguisher.

That's actually right where I was going to put mine. I was thinking a molle mount for my first aid kit on the other side would be cool too. It's just dead space right there.

Quick fists would be my go-to. I'll put one in the truck some day but I have one rolling around the trunk of my GTI since that's more likely to need it. I'm likely going to use quick fists for that too.

RAGO Fabracation has a quick disconnect mount for the bed that's pretty nice.

3 people have mentioned quick fists which I had to google. I've never heard of these. I'll take a closer look. Thanks for the feedback.

Well, I was hoping to copy you but the AC's don't have enough room.

You guys were right about the quick fists though.

I ended up fitting it in front of the seat.

Nice! That was the first place I thought of putting mine as well until I found out I had room on the side.

For 2nd/3rd gens it fits right in the rear door cup holder.

    19AF6525-D754-40F2-9BF4-84551CA07C4E.jpg

Had it in my 2nd gen double cab, and now in my 3rd gen crewmax. Out of the way and easily accessible.

    Edit:
I should get a cut of every extinguisher they sell, because everyone who gets in my vehicle always says “huh.. I never thought about having a fire extinguisher handy, I’m going to get one now”

I mounted mine to the inside of the bed. If I get a shell or tonneau I'll have to move it towards the back. If I get sliders made with steps on them I can jump out and snag it no problem. Right now it's not bad to reach if I jump in the tire or jump into the bed. Quickfists for the shovel and the extinguisher.

While Vizsla was making his own he was kind enough to make a bunch more for others. He didn’t do it for the money and I know it definitely wasn’t worth his time so I’m pretty sure he won’t make more.

I came across a vehicle fire today on the interstate coming into work. Fortunately, the person driving the car was already out but the engine was on fire. Is there a particular "type" of fire extinguisher that would be designed for vehicle fires? I'm sure a sizable 10 pound fire extinguisher would be ideal. I've seen something about Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishers for engine fires.

    Any suggestions would be great.

Maybe its the way I think, but I see no need for an extinguisher. Admittedly, I carried one for years in the glovebox and never used it.

Now if my truck is ablaze, then the last thing I’m doing is popping the hood or crawling under to play fireman.

    RUNNNNNNN!!!

ABC is needed. There are components in a vehicle that fall under all 3 classes. I would recommend a clean agent or halogenated extinguisher.

edit: Thought clean agent extinguishers were ABC rated. They are only BC rated. So i guess BC would be sufficient. halogenated extinguishers are what gets put on race cars and race trucks.

Casually driving on the road I've seen at least 4 vehicles on fire in the past six months. I haven't been in a good position to help these people, but I like to be ready. I am more worried about something catching fire out in the desert. If it's my truck I'll need it to get me home. If it's some else's vehicle then I'll help as I can because civilization can be pretty far off. If it's the desert then hopefully between 7 gallons of water, a shovel, and am extinguisher, I can put it out. As someone who shoots guns at steel targets I like to be ready for fires. I am careful, but $hit happens sometimes.

Well said. There are a dozen reasons to carry one and they don't take up that much space. I keep one next to my bed also. Like a small insurance policy.
