This post is the best... I broke my metal reflector too but I was able to get it up and in place. Now if I can figure out where my dash is creaking in the cold I’ll be back to 100%. Thanks for the great write up and pics

Similar thing happened to me when I went to install my last Pioneer Double Din. I'd been upgrading to newer versions of the same brand every couple years to get new features. It had always basically been a plug and play affair with the last 2 or 3, just un-plug HU from old Pioneer harness for the last unit and plug new one in. Took about 10 minutes each time. But some time before this last one, the AVH 501EX, I realized they had change the wiring harness. Nothing significant that I remember, just tweaked the shape and put the clip on the opposite side so the plug on the radio wouldn't marry up with the harness in the truck anymore. Had to run to Best Buy and get a new one once the dash was apart and I realized it.

No biggie, I figured. Can't be hard to cut and splice a new harness in. Well, the first double din installer did from years ago and other work that had been done in the dash to connect things to the radio after that left a few different wires configured in a way that I didn't quite understand and had trouble tracing. I didn't realize it wasn't looking like the diagram until I dug into it a little bit. I tried to match everything up exactly as before but couldn't get sound after a few days. Had to go swallow my pride and go into Best Buy to get them to clean up the wiring under my free install. Was done in an hour. When I picked the truck up they had cut out a few things that apparently were determined to serve no useful function in there and everything has been perfect ever since.

What was normally a 20 minute job had me fumbling around under the truck in my spare time for a couple days before giving up and taking it in. If I had started from stock it probably would have been easier but the extra stuff under there threw me off.

Just wrap some tape around the bulbs and yank them out.

So this just happened to my on my 19. I just found this thread and my freak out factor is somewhat toned down. Won't have a chance to tackle it for a few days but after reading this I do feel a little better. If it gets bad and still can't figure it out I might want to reach out to a local DFW metroplex forum member that has done this to assist?! Thanks

I promise you, I'm decently proficient with tinkering but not an expert by any means, and it only took me about 30 minutes to pull down the map light housing, fix the backside connections, and put it back.

This happened to me last night. I pushed the connector up into the console. I will be taking it off this weekend to fix it. It made me sick to think i just screwed up my brand new 45k dollar truck to have a brighter light bulb that costs pennies

The LED upgrade got me too. I managed to blow the fuse on the first light I tried to change, the drivers side door. I'll start with the easy bulb, I said. The youtube videos made it look so simple.

Well after blowing the fuse (probably my fault) I had to get a $5 assorted pack of fuses at the local store to get one replacement 7.5a. I put the original bulb back (which still worked thankfully) and installed the new fuse - everything came back on like it was before.

Now after reading all the stories about messing up sockets for the dome and map lights, I am thinking I will probably stick with the originals until one burns out. The LED light kit I ordered was $20 on Amazon. Might just return for a refund and cut my losses.

Give it another go and pull the fuse this time. Now that you've messed up once you know what to do, don't quit so easily!

This has crossed my mind many times. I haven’t returned the LEDs yet. My fear is I am going to mess up one of the sockets in the overhead lights, like some reported in this thread. I know I’ll be kicking myself if that happens.

It's really not that difficult to pull the plastic unit out if you do push one of the socket in. Like 4 bolts I think.

Great post for a morning read! LMAO with my coffee!
Question, the LEDs appear significantly brighter/whiter cooler color temp, are they so much so to be distraction if the passenger used theirs while driving?

I just joined this club while installing Headlight Revolution LED replacements. Up went the socket as I inserted the bulb. Blew the 7.5A fuse as well. I had a few choice words. This thread was a super big help. Removed the console, pushed the socket back onto the posts and used a little epoxy to hold down the runs and form a new weld head. Updated all my interior light to LEDs after fixing the map light side show. Thanks again for taking the time to post the fix.

Okay, count me in as another victim of map light led replacement syndrome, along with the trip to three separate stores to find the elusive 7.5 amp lo profile replacement fuse.

This is a very useful thread, wish I'd read it first.

Hello, My name is Tom and I made the same mistake that some of you have. I wish I found this support group before. I Am an Electrician and should know better but I blew the fuse installing the map lights also.

I was looking for the fuse under the hood and pulled the first 7.5 amp fuse I found. ((While the motor was running)Again, I should know better)This made my motor very unhappy and the engine started surging and a organized group of warning lights came on the display.

I sat down my beer and figured I should stop for the night before I burn this thing to the ground.

this morning I found the fuse box under the dash and replaced the 10 amp fuse that was blown then hooked up my code reader and cleared all of the faults that I had caused.

Thanks for your help and good luck.

This is wild! I have the same issue. I removed the console, pushed the tabs back down flattened out the plastic weld. Now the bulb does fit snug with everything reinstalled almost perfectly. The problem I’m having is that when turning the switch on/off I get only flicker and the other lights are sometimes affected. Does anything think this is related to the switch button being fried?
