No pro but could most-likely be ergo and geometry.

It wouldn't surprise me. The more I ride this bike, the more I dislike the geometry. It just feels off and I can't place exactly what it is. The 29" wheels don't help either, really not a fan of them. I mean, when doing a track stand or turning the handle bars with my pedals horizontal, the front tire hits my damn foot!

What's the deal with fatbikes? They look cool but seem like they'd be slow. I used to road bike a lot but need something better for pulling my kids around in a trailer

Around here, they're mostly a winter bike. The fat tires make riding on snow and ice possible.

Fatbikes allow riding all year long. Mostly snow riding for me. They are geared for slow riding because when on snow it is SLOW, but extremely challenging for both balance and cardio. I am usually in the best shape of the year at the end of the winter/fatbikes season. I do ride it on dirt as well but I have other bikes for other conditions. XC, DH, Fat, Freeride, Hill climb, 26, 27.5, 29r, hardtail, rigid, full suspension, War Machine. I have a bike for just about everything out there except the road... Nope not going there...

If you want to "ride a bike for the first time again" go ride a fatbike, they're fun as hell.IMG_20170322_025753~2.jpg IMG_20170319_214429621~2.jpg

So probably I'm better off with a 29er hardtail in my climate...

I'm told they're alot of fun in sand too. That said, if you're looking for a daily rider a fat bike may not be the ideal choice.

I struggle with the same issue. Lots of potential causes - tire pressure and grips are the big ones. Too much tire pressure can cause hand fatigue. Also changing grip diameter can help a lot. Too skinny or too fat will cause problems. Brake setup would be the next thing I check. Lever angle and bite point adjustment have helped me. Beyond that you are changing parts and spending $$.

I've started messing around with some of that stuff, but I didn't think of changing tire pressure. My brake levers bug the hell out of me, probably my fault for buying a more entry level bike. My shifters have the little number dial that shows what gear I'm in. That prevents me from moving the brake levers in far enough for one finger braking. Two finger is the best I can manage.

I don't plan to throw a ton of money into parts for this bike. I can't stand the 29ers so this bike will end up being used by The Woman and I'll buy myself a higher end 27.5 when finances allow.

Whereabouts in Valemount do you ride? We pass through there once or twice a year on our way to the Lower Wasteland in BC and I'm planning to start bringing a bike along for quick day rides to break up the long drive.

I know im late to the party but I ride a specialized for work. Ride at the oceanfront so lots of salt and sand. We are incredibly tough on our bikes we dump and crash them all the time not for lack of skill but sometimes we have to dismount fast or use them for protection then get stomp on by our horses. They just keep on going with minimal maintenance. Tough bikes.

If you drive down Main Street and turn right at the end after the town, then turn on your first left. Welcome to paradise.
