Open a case with Toyota is about all you can do. I've been going through this butt pain for awhile and its what I did. I'm supposed to have some sort of decision tomorrow. I'm not expecting too much, actually expecting a bunch of BS based on what other members have went through however I will push it as far as can and then decided what I want to do. https://www.toyota.com/support/contact-us

I cancelled my appointment I had this past Tuesday because I been suffering from an ear infection since Monday. Since nobody’s truck was able to be rectified by now, I wasnt going to sit there all day for nothing while dealing with an infection. And now that I’m seeing new posts from other poor souls that have the same issue and not getting anywhere, I just dont know what to do at this point as far as bringing my truck in. I will however open a case with Toyota as well in the meantime.

I called Toyota and "started a case", but it doesn't look like there are enough of us experiencing this problem for them to address seriously. They are throwing it back in the hands of my servicing dealer.......

Update to my whining...Due to the case I opened the Toyota Corps regional super tech visited my truck today at the dealer. He said it was most definitely out of calibration and got into the trucks computer and did his thing. He said everything should be good to go and to bring it back if it had issues - Hopefully it will work out. I included a snap shot of the service documentation for situational awareness. I will say all this is a total inconvenience for me but to be fair up to this point in time both the dealership and Toyota Corp have been professional and responsive to my problems.

Bought my Tundra Jan of 2018....2 months later, experienced the same issues listed above with PCS. After 3 different times at the dealer and deer in headlights looks, I contacted corporate. Tech case was made and sensor has been replaced twice since that time. Back at the shop again with same issue and I spoke with GM of dealership. Advised them that my wife and I both feel the trucks mechanical issues are UNSAFE and the truck needs to be traded in with no cost to me and placed in equivalent vehicle with same payments or less.

Dealer did a trade in and put me in a 2018 Tundra Sport. So far, knock on wood, I have had no issues with the new vehicle 2 weeks in.

Waiting to see what happens next.

I'm having the same issue. They did a software update any they thought that would fix it. It didn't. What the dealer tell you?

I am having the same issue. The second time they replaced it the truck system said malfunction, take to dealer for service. Toyota said they had a batch of bad sensors. I find this not to be true as a couple of days after receiving the new sensor the light came back on. Took it to the dealership while the light was on. They took it in for repair and said it was a dirty sensor. Again not true because it keeps coming on. I’m taking my truck back in for repair number 3. I am starting a paper trail to file for lemon law protection. Please keep in mind that Toyota will tell you anything to not have to replace or buy back the truck. Cover yourself and keep a paper trail.

If anyone wants to join in on a attorney I’m in. They denied my buyback with 3 sensor replacements, safety harness replacement and camera replacement totaling 5 visits.

I finally lifted my truck even with the sensor issues. A new guy at the dealership didn’t even look at my history and said the issue is because of my lift. I was about to tee off on him when the service manager came over and intervened. Told the tech that this started after only 3 weeks of ownership well before the lift.

So yes, they will say whatever they can to pass blame.

Unfortunately the problem doesn’t end with the 2019s! My PCS light comes on every day with an occasional “Pre Collision Sensor Unavailable - Clean Sensor”. I have taken the truck in twice to no avail. My wife took it in the second time to ride with the service guy and, of course, the light didn’t come on! She got the obligatory “come back if it happens again” speech. Since I work M-F 8:00-5:00, I have to take time off work to go in to drive around with the service guy, which is difficult in my line of work. Which brings me to another point; mechanics have been taking vehicles on test drives since cars were invented, so why, all of a sudden, do I have to be there for this problem?!?

I recommend members experiencing these issues don't waste too much time with the dealer and open a case with https://www.toyota.com/support/contact-us. I had all these issues basically driving off the lot. I did the dealership thing multiple times to no avail and after I opened a case with Toyota they eventually dispatched a technician from Toyota Corp and he recalibrated my sensor, system, whatever and fixed it (knock on wood). That was about 2,500 miles ago and the system has been working perfectly with no false errors whatsoever and it has worked as advertised on two situations alerting me in legitimate situations. This is a total quality control issue and can be corrected however it is so frustrating, time consuming and something you should have not to deal with purchasing a new car. No doubt though that Toyota has a record/knowledge of this particular issue.

I had this light come on for my 2019 tundra limited today. Less than 1000 miles. It went off eventually and I looked it up and found this thread. Mine is less than a month old.

I've had my 2019 Tundra Crewmax SR5 with off-road package for 10 days, and it currently has 809 miles on it. About 20 miles ago while I was driving into work suddenly the PCS/off light turns on while driving. I scrolled to the menu and tried to turn it back on and adjust it and it wouldn't work. About 2 miles later the light went off. It was raining this morning so I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but I ran a Google Search and found this thread which is a little concerning to me. Hopefully this does not become some sort of a chronic problem.

Haven’t read this thread in awhile. I was hoping by now they would have a permanent fix for this problem. With the new tweaks (apple car play, push button ignition Etc) coming for the 2020 year I’m contemplating trading my 2013 in. I could understand the frustration having these issues right off the lot. I can understand there point with it not being a safety or usability issue because it really isn’t. It’s not like airbags are turning off, ABS not working, vehicle stalling etc. it’s a non-essential feature that’s not working. And lemon law guidelines vary by state.

I also like some of the other new trucks on the market however looking on their forums they have a lot more issues then we see here. It’s hard to remember that most people aren’t on forums and those that are on complaining are probably in the minority. People don’t come in to just say everything is working great. Really seems like you just have to roll the dice with whatever brand you get and hope you’re not one of the people to experience nagging issues.

I've been following this thread for a while now. I've had the sensor replaced twice and it's now beginning to fail a 3rd time with just under 10,000 miles on the truck. Like others, I've been getting the runaround from the dealership until they can actually capture the codes. I received a "Special Services Campaign (Remedy Notice)" from Toyota regarding this issue that says "Toyota will update the PCS software and apply sealer" to the sensor. I don't want this done until the sensor is replaced but in order to have that done, I have to have it at the dealership, while it's acting up which is nearly impossible unless I let it go until it's happening all the time like the previous 2 occasions. Currently, it happens 2-3 times a week and goes off after a few minutes.

Just got my 2014 Tundra and the collision sensors kept going crazy so I put painters tape with black electrical as a second layer on the front two sensors. Now it is quiet.

Had this happen today with my 2019, 1500km and 8 days old, my message said front camera unavailable i believe and my pcs light came on as off. I was on the highway, went into menu and turned off PCS and turned it back on and error went away. I will mention this to my dealership but it doesn't sound like they have a viable fix for this

It’s been a while since I posted on this thread. My experience was with my new 18 TRD Sport CM. I had the PCS failure 4 times within the first 7k miles. After the fourth sensor replacement I qualified and filed under my states lemon law (Ohio). I hated to have to do that but I was not happy about the repeated failures with no resolution. Once the option of replace vs buyback was settled, I chose buyback, I returned my truck. I can say the process was fairly easy once I got past the constant run-around from Toyota customer service. I will also state that my dealer was a great help too, didn’t think I’d ever say that either. I’ve since ordered and taken delivery of a white 19 TRD Pro and now have 9k miles with no issues regarding the PCS. I love the Pro and it all worked out in the end.

In short, research your state lemon law and if you have the misfortune of needing to use it do it! If Toyota gives you a hard time have your attorney contact them on your behalf. I must restate that I DID NOT need to use legal persuasion to get Toyota to make my issue right again. I am also in no way a source for legal advice nor am I providing legal advice (have to say stuff like that nowadays lol).

Well, both my pcs and trailer brake and check engine lights came on today, 15k miles. Seems to have lasted longer than a lot in this thread. Arghh

Same here. Toyota bought my 2018 platinum cm back because of the PCS issues. Was easy once they approved it. Dealership helped out a lot too. Have a 2019 TRD Pro now and couldn’t be happier. Fingers crossed..

I have 9.2k on the Pro now with no issues. Sounds like we both had near identical misfortune, both resulting in TRD Pro ownership:yes:

I can't wait to post on this PCS subject but I want my details from my service appointments (guessing 8), over the past 6 months and the problem still isn't fixed. Completely disappointed in both quality and service.

Call Toyota corporate and start the buyback process. Get all the paperwork from the service department and get all your receipts ready.

Hello everyone! I am curious if anyone that has had this issue ended up with airbags deploying? Apologies for the long post...
We purchased a 2018 Toyota Tundra 1794 used in November if 2019. The truck had about 34k miles on it, and was under full factory warranty at time of purchase. While driving this vehicle after purchase, I had the system collision warning go off... and I quickly braked (even though no vehicles or objects were around me on the road). My pregnancy brain thought I had mentioned it to my husband... but apparently I hadn’t. A few weeks later, my husband was driving to the hospital (I was in labor) and the warning went off for him. He did not brake. He pulled in to the parking garage of the hospital and put the vehicle in park, and all the airbags deployed. He suffered a severe concussion and the next day the vehicle was delivered to the local Toyota dealership. Several months without any word on findings (we were given a Carolla loaner), we finally got a letter from Toyota corporate saying that the vehicle was in motion when airbags were deployed, and there was front end collision detected. My husband took numerous photos after the incident, and there was no visible damage anywhere... no vehicles parked near by either. Toyota is not owning up to this, and we will now be going through our insurance. I look forward to the reports and codes pulled... however, they said no errors were detected. According to most of you all on this forum, this sensor error doesn’t show when diagnostic is ran anyhow. I also am curious as to what “damage” they are referring to, as there was no visible damage. I’m hoping our insurance will request the camera footage from the hospital and it will be clear that my husband had not hit anything, and was clearly parked when they went off. Any thoughts? This is all very distressing. The truck did have after market tires and lift.

Hospitals have just as many cameras as banks. So no camera caught that in the parking garage? Don’t the airbags only deploy after a certain mph?
