On a recent trip with a new to me 2014, 4wd, crew max, and according to the average mpg, I was getting 17.5 mpg on the highway. I'm not sure of the accuracy but I'll go with it for this conversation. With a 26 gallon fuel tank and the average being displayed at 17.5 mpg, wouldn't the miles to empty display read 455 miles? It was reading only 350 or so to miles empty. Also, on several occasions the display read 14 miles to empty but I could never get more than 22 gallons in the tank.

    Welcome aboard,
I had the same question when I got my tundra and it did the same thing. Said I had like 15 miles till empty but I was only able to get about 30-32 (cant remember exact) in a 38 gal tank.
At 16 MPG and (lets say) 6 gals in the tank, should be 96 miles till empty.
Seems Toyota has a built in fudge factor so you don't run out

I have noticed a HUGE difference in the quality of gas with my tundra. IF I can get decent fuel I have gotten 19.6 pen and paper on a trip. Mostly highway driving @ 60-65 mph. If I take it up to 70-75 mph I drop to 18. With trash fuel like sam's club or discount I lose 2 mpg. Winter mix fuel gets worse. Don't bother with high octane, it doesn't pay out in better mileage.

There is a 6 gallon reserve. As far as mileage, you will figure out soon enough that it doesn't matter in these trucks. They are 6,000 pounds and a blast to drive. Have fun with it!!

This is good info right here. I get the same results... Best to only buy gas from Top Tier fuel suppliers - https://toptiergas.com/licensed-brands/

Welcome from Colorado. For the first time last week I deliberately drove until my gas light came on. Drove it down till it showed 2 miles. Filled it up. Took a hair over 20 gallons. I already know this but figured what the hell. I average 10 mpg so I have around 60 miles to go on reserve so I will pretend I only have 50.

I play a little game: every time I see a thread with 'MPG' in the title, I double-check my beer temp and draw a long pour. Carry on, lads ...:cheers:
