Got a humming sound from what appears to be the front driver side. It has what others are saying to be a cyclic woo woo woo sound.

Ive been reading alot on the whole cyclic humming sound some are having. I have replaced the diff needle bearing on driver side with ECGS bushing AND swapped to a new cv axle and it still humms.

Replaced both diffy and transfer case fluids wile at it too. Greased up all u-jointz. Rotated tires. All to no avail.

Truck has 150k on it and is all stock on michelin ltx m/s all seasons so have rooled out knobby-tire noise or lift issues.

The sound is most loud at about 30-50, seems to disappear at 68 and from 70 on up its there. I have tried it in 4x4 (going striaght only @ 45) and its still there. Going down hill coasting in neutral is still same.

I DO notice when turning left at speeds of 30-45 (on highway clover-leafs) its gone but turning right and going straight, its there.

Passenger wheel bearing seems fine with the tire lifted and hands @ 12 and 6 test. However, ive read that bearings can go bad even with passing this test.

Next plan is to replace pass wheel bearing/hub assembly, as if i turn left it stops but turning right/going straigt its there. I got the free warranty replacement so why not...

Any thoughts on this? What are typical symptoms im having associated to, bad left wheel bearing?...or is it right?

Startin to have a feeling its a bad front diff, as others have had theirs replaced under warranty, only to have it return back 50k later.

I have humming 45-60mph. Cannot tell which end it is coming from. Reading it’s easy on the front axle, but a pain for the rear.

I have the dreaded woo woo on my 07 with 98k on it. I might try the ECGS bushing. How difficult is it?

sorry, to revive an old post...but I figure I would ask here instead of making new post.
@el_taco ... Did you figure out what was the problem? What did you replace?

Both of my front bearings were shot. I replaced the whole hub to eliminate pressing bearings. 1 hour per side, wasn’t too bad.

So sry guys. Forgot that about this. Nope....not wheel bearing. Replaced both front sides...nadda. i read it could be front diff. Others have replaces theirs under warranty and the sound is gone.

Im thinkin of juss buying a cheap one off of fleabay and sending it to a reputable toyota gear install guy to put in a solid spacer. Forgot the guys name...he in cal and does toyo truck gears and other fab parts.

I know the dealer already did both rear bearings too...so im thinkin its front diff.

Mine was the front diff. Replaced under warranty (after wheel bearing was replaced). Mine started at ~60k miles and finally had it swapped out at 70k or so.

I’m putting in a ECGS bushing tomorrow, in the driver side where cv shaft goes into diff. I will report on outcome.. both front wheel bearings have already been done in past..

I put in the ECGS bearing, in driver front side of front diff. and 75w 90 fluid synth. Fixed it about 35% vibration gone. change to 80w 90 gear lube! Noticed about 40% vib gone.. Still wasn’t satisfied.! replaced with a 2015 front diff. With about 20k miles on it from a bone yard. I’m back to square one! I will probably get a ECGS bearing for this one and call it good. It’s not a terrible vibration, just annoying..!

Has anyone had luck changing the front diff to make the sound go away? I have a 2013 tundra that makes a humming (woo, woo, woo) sound 30-60 mph and definitely when turning right, not left. No vibration or anything and it doesn’t seem to effect the truck it just drives me nuts. :)

Hate to revitalize a sub but has anyone figured it out is it the passenger side ball bearing or the pass needle bearing?

Got the same issue.. alignment, and wheels balanced, diff fluid changed it was in good condition at 130,000 miles, sound remains. 30-40 I really feel the vibez then it mellows out with speed..

    Hi all,
Not sure if anyone fixed theirs and I’d be happy to know what was it but here is my story.
I have that humming getting louder while speeding over 40 mph only when on 4HI and I can hear it in the front driver’ side.
Got the truck to a mechanic to diagnose it, he said it’s the front diff. Replaced that, the sound is there, still, when engaging on 4HI.
Don’t know what else could be, it doesn’t do anything while on 2WD, only on 4HI.
To mention that the truck runs flawlessly, got almost 700k on it (Canada), no engine or transmission issues. Got new KO2s recently and I’m sure it’s not the tires. Any opinions, ideas, much appreciated.
    Thank you!
