Hi guys, new to the forum but not new to modding vehicles.

My 13 tundra currently sits on 18x9 method nv 305s +25 (I think) with 295/70/18 trail grapplers

I also have 6112s up front top notch and about to install shackles in the rear.

I currently have no rubbing with mud flaps removed.

    Now my question.

I am looking at some used local rims. They are methods in 18x9 with 35s on them. One set is +12 and the other is +18.

Now I have read and watched so many things in offset it is one concept my brain cannot visualize.

I am guessing the lower (smaller positive) offset will push the rim away from the suspension and maybe poke out a little from the wheel well? Please help a offset newbie understand.

Yes, the lower positive number will push the outside of the wheel away from the vehicle. Once you get to an offset of 0, then it goes negative, the higher the - number, will make the wheel and tire stick way out.

So am I safe to assume a lower positive, like the two sets I am looking at, the +12 will create more clearance for the the 35s. But they might just stick out about an 6mm more than the +18s? Which is about 1/4”?

Do you have a lift? I have a 5/3 and had to remove and/or relocate some of the factory trim with +18 offset and 35's on 18" wheels. It wasn't a big deal, but had to be done.

I have a suspension lift with my bilstein 6112s in the front. Maybe a 2-3”

Yes, they’ll stick out that much more in mm’s. But they won’t create more clearance. Actually the opposite. They will actually rub more. You’ll also need a CMC if you don’t have one already.

Ok good to know. So if the +18 set is cheaper I might go that route.

I am assuming you are taking about a body mount chop When you said cmc. I do lot have one yet but I am looking for a shop to do one. I’m in so cal and willing to drive for a good deal and a good job

Playing with this will help understand offset (I had trouble with offset also)
change some of the settings (top of page) and see what happens.

I know it will be a snug fit. I want to fit 35s eventually. And finding a used set of rims with 35s already installed seems like a dream come true. Especially to test fit things. I was just seeing which offset would be the better of the two.

So what I gather from the above posts. The +12s will push the Wheel out further than the +18s but will NOT create more tire/suspension clearance. But they Kight create more interference.

I might go with the +18s then

    Not many yet, mostly stock.
You might need both CMC & inner wheel well and metal perturbing into that area
I did both as well as many others.o_O

Why are you changing wheels? Your NVs are the best offset for our trucks and in my opinion the best looking wheels around.

This is the only way I can visualize it. 0 offset means the wheels inside mounting surface is dead center of the wheel relative to the outside edges. Positive pushes that surface toward the outside of the wheel and negative moves it back toward the inside of the wheel.

    Thanks for the help.

I ended up picking up the rims today with 35s on them.

Looking at my current tire set up

I will definitely have to do the body chop mount as my current tire is about 1/4” to 1/2” from rubbing. I will also have to push the plastics behind the from bumper too.

I got a great deal on the rims so I had to jump on them.
