Update here Feathering tires only 8000 miles, 2018 cm

Anyone have any idea why my tires would be feathering?? Front tires, most visible on the front passenger outer threads.

I don't drive aggressively or corner too hard. I only have 8k on the truck.

    Sports CM with sway bars.

I will likely call the dealership since it's under warranty but just wanted to get some ideas as to why this is occurring.

    Thanks

Have you had the alignment checked? Toe-in Toe-out. Assuming inflation is to spec...

I haven't got an alignment check, didn't need to cause it's a new truck. Aside from that, the dealership did a tire rotation at 5k with the oil change.

I'm at 33psi up front, spec says it should be 30psi front, 32 rear? They are all 33's.

EDIT: I do know that on certain stretches of road, I can feel the truck bounce a little, like there's groves on the road, but there's none, it's quite smooth. My wife's Subaru Ascent rides perfectly smooth on the same stretch of road.

BTW, the REARS looks like it has perfect wear, but those were switch out not even 3k again with the tire rotation.

Yep, just got off the phone with the local Toyota, scheduled for Monday. My tires thread life has just been shot shorter now. Sucks.

These trucks kind of wallow in the corners anyways. Mine was doing this from the start. I promptly installed a sway bar and it is noticeably better.

I have the TRD sway bars (front/rear), mines the Sport edition.

Any case, I also have 2 recalls to get done too, one is the front sensor and software update - getting all that done on Monday.

Yeah sounds like you might need an alignment. Those sway bars are pretty stiff surprised you’re getting feathering on the front tires.

I noticed the same thing on my truck (only has 2900 miles). The front end has never felt right to me. I think the alignment is out or something. I am going to get it checked at my 5000 mile service.

Similar issue. I noticed the outside edge of my fronts were wearing pretty quickly. The rears still have very defined edges. I don’t know if I’m taking turns too fast or scrubbing the tires a lot during tight turns in parking lots. I normally drive pretty conservatively.

I used to run 35 psi front/rear on all my trucks and cars since 1985. I ran 35 psi up front on my brand new 2017 4WD and soon noticed some edge roll/wear. I listened/read what others were doing and upped to 44 psi. That ended the problem.

Yeah it got worse in the last 3k miles. :bikewhoops: I did't buy a Chevy Shake truck here. :frusty:

Yes, get it checked sooner than later. I don't know why a few of us are experiencing that, is it faulting from the factory? :annoyed:

Me too, I don't do U Turns or a lot of agressive turning. I drive fairly light footed due our High Tech Gas Guzzling feature (kidding)of the Tundra..
    :notsure:

Hmm 44 is pretty high and that's not within spec, I bet if I took it in at 44psi, they will say it's wrong and not do anything which will be not fix the problem.

hmm, but I doubt they will give new tires due to an issue with Bridgestone tires.

Bridgestone at the time gave me 25% off towards a new set. I bought Revos and they lasted basically to advertised mileage (45k, 50k advertised life). I had a lifetime alignment on that truck and it was always in spec on both sets.

I would have the alignment check and printout you can view. I Think your psi is good. I have 10 ply tires with 80 psi max, which I run at 42 because they are heavy A/T and the truck seems to run better at that level. I am monitoring the tread wear, esp at the center and so far so good. These trucks are heavy so hard cornering will take a toll, but that doesn’t sound like an issue with you. (Are you the only driver?) I would rule out alignment before moving on to another issue.

I'm hoping to wear my tires out so I can get some new wheels and tires and justify it to the wife. I have 20k on the truck now but the tires are still at 7/32nds. Damn Michelins.

To the OP. Alignments are under 12 month 12,000 mile warranty from Toyota. Just let the dealer know you would like a warranty alignment.

I run BFG AT KO2s at 40 psi and have no problems of any kind with uneven wear [rotating every 5,000 miles]. I think some people run them at 45 psi.

Anyway, the only issue with the KO2s is that I have a little vibration from 71-74 mph, which I have not been able to eliminate, so I just drive above or below that speed.

Anyway, that's why I am going to Cooper tires next time: they won't wear as well, but they will ride better [especially the 10 ply] IMO.

I have the same problem. I noticed it at 3k miles. I had them check the alignment. Toe was factory off a little bit. They fixed it. At 6k miles now. Same problem.

Yes I'm the only driver. My wife won't drive my truck she says it's too big for her.

I have scheduled it have it looked at Monday at the local Toyota dealership

Hmm interesting how much did it cost you ? Did it solve it permanently? I would think so alignment should last a while. Not a few thousand miles.

My best guess is something is throwing off the toe. That’s what causes the feathering of the tire. I don’t know what though.
