New member first post, I did something I shouldn't have last night, my question goes out to those with a CM 4/4 with TSS Off Road. Wondering what realistic gas mileage I could expect it's 25miles highway to work and about 6 miles of Down town Dallas to my parking garage.

For last 6 years I have been in a midsize truck, I love this size and had my mind made up was/am going to get a Tacoma. I was back at the dealer last night with my wife and daughter we dropped of my kiddo's Jeep for warrenty work. They needed 20 min to give it a wash before they gave it back told us said have a seat. Well we should have done that but I wanted to check out the Tacoma's in stock. Dealer only had a limited and a 2/4 SR5. Dealer said they fly off the lot and he could order what I am looking for. Or he could make a better deal on a Tundra. So we walk to the next row and he has 12 2016 Tundra Crew max 4/4 with the 5.7 and TSS pkg.

I was not sure about the TSS offroad but the trucks are beautiful, all badges are blacked out, 20" black custom wheels, steps, KO2 tires. Long story short Wife and daughter fell in love with the storm trooper, and I love that one, and the Magnetic Grey. I had a Ram 1500 HEMI once and well loved it but at that time my commute was 60 miles each way to work. Now only 30 miles. Love the Tundra would not have to buy wheels or tires right out of the gate. I would with the Tacoma I would be very limited on lift options since parking garage at work is only 6'5.
I would save the price of wheels and tires on the Tundra but I know me if I had a V8 to tinker with, no way I could leave the exhaust air intake stock. So I would have to look into duels and glasspack, cherry bombs, or flow master.

Just dont want to go in blind, I figure a truck that big and that range of HP with 4/4 could expect 16 on HW realistically? Sorry to ramble on my first post.

Decisions decisions.

 

Buy a commuter car! Lol! Then up you go!!!!

 

Welcome from Houston! I drive an hour + each way to/from work, mostly stop & go driving and I get 15 mpg on a regular basis. On nice, flat Interstate 10, I get 18 mpg driving 70-75 with the AC on. I can drop both those numbers 1-2 mpg if I get a case of the lead foot.

 

If you're not expecting over 20 or under 13 mpg, you'll be perfectly happy.

if I was worried about gas mileage, I wouldn't have bought a 5400 lb full size truck

that being said, I commute 25 miles into downtown Austin everyday. I usually average 80mph to work and 70mph from work (depending on traffic) and my mpg's are averaging in the mid 16's.

are you still deciding on whether or not to get a tundra? if so, do it. the tundra is awesome. you wont be disappointed.

 

Sadly, the MPG on the Taco really isn't much better than the Tundra and there is a whole lot less HP and room. Only real advantage to the Taco is if you frequently are running around town in urban areas on a regular basis. the Taco is much more maneuverable and easier to park. My .02

 

true it can be hard for street parking or underground parking (if lifted) but yeah you might squeeze 2 more mpg on the tacoma and that's about it.

2 more mpg's is less than $20 a month. Stop worrying about it and just buy the Tundra.

 

Yeah pretty much joined the dark side going to get a Tundra. As for being hard to park, I had a 2001 F350 cc 4x4 with Ranch hand it was Big (23 feet nose to tail). But holding off my house has a contract so once sold and I get the loan for a new place I will pull the trigger. Dealers offering 15.5k for my current truck that will help with payments.

Now the hard part Black with all blacked out, White with black wheels, or Gun metal grey love that color.

 

ya, I came from a lifted Tacoma and the around town MPG is about the same, but the highway MPG on the tundra is much better. I prefer the tundra over the Tacoma

EVERYBODY that knows ANYTHING will tell you white is the fastest color!

I actually like it mainly because of the high visibility, when I've spent all day out hunting and I'm returning to the truck in the dusk, it is a lot easier to see up on a hill or out in a meadow than any other color.
Most of the other colors will just disappear in poor light, and after tonight (Haloween) Infernal Orange really has no purpose.

 

Just doing my due diligence, and my boss asked me why a Tundra vs say an F250. He proceeded to tell me his cost what a Tundra does. Tried to explain to him they are pretty high now. So I looked at Ford the 250 and F350 omg have they lost their minds $63-to $70,000 for a truck. Looked at Dodge even though the non rebal is butt ugly same thing WTH. I won't own a Chevy and nissans are also butt ugly.

But that's a good thing more of a push into a Tundra anyone with a 2.5" lift that can tell me how tall they are?
