You can't compare a base SR5 to a "loaded" other brand but you can compare a dealer customized truck with a bunch of aftermarket parts to a completely stock other brand truck? o_O

And by the way, dealer installed aftermarket parts are not options and you replying with... "Those trim packages are not fully loaded" was... I'll say misleading at best. The trucks you listed aren't "fully loaded". They are standard trim packages with a bunch of dealer add ons. Not even remotely the same thing.

Ok, quit comparing the dealers prices. When I was looking for my Tundra, I went to the Toyota website and built the car there. Choose your build and get a price. You can use that as a basis. I’m an old fart and you young guys should be able to figure that out. I ended up with a Costco build and price, it was about $100 over invoice. I’m sure you can do better than that as the 19 model year is coming to an end soon. I’ve seen some other posts by others that have gotten some great deals...

    I owned a 2014 Sierra SLT for 5 years. I test drove a new AT4, I bought the Tundra.

It’s like a BMW, nice looking, riding and driving but do you really want to own it past the warranty period?

I didn’t enjoy owning the GMC even during the warranty period it was always broken. This is not a quality I hold high in a work truck.

Would not compare a BMW build with a Chevy imo.

Yes, oops  by gasoline I meant diesel fuel. I don't mind improved emissions, but with that kind of computer control if I ever buy another new diesel it's going to get deleted and a Farm Use tag. Or, I'll just get a '09.

A friend of mine just bought the GMC AT4. Interior was pretty nice. Drove it, ample power, but it was like driving a school bus, not nearly as nimble as the Tundra. The tailgate also had me scratching my head thinking, when would I ever need that? If you like gadgets and the "latest and greatest" stuff, then it would probably be worth the money. Definitely not for me. $64K for a 1/2 ton gasser is crazy.

Haven't you see the commercial? You can stop a ladder from sliding out the back when you're too lazy to strap it down.

Actually the Supra will have the updated version of the B58 motor (which is already reliable for a BMW). And there’s not a brand out there that doesn’t have some issues.

I could’ve chose to buy a 60 K tundra that would’ve been comparable to that Chevy. I think people are missing that point. I chose a 37K truck that still has the backbone of the 60 K truck without all the bells and whistle‘s. I didn’t want those bells and whistle’s. I wanted something that would have as few problems as possible. In my eyes, extra doodads mean extra problems.

When I was looking around, most comparable trucks from the big three were all similarly priced according to all the features and add-ons. I could’ve gotten the same truck similarly packaged from Dodge for about the same price that I paid. The real decision came down to what I got for my money. What I wanted was a reliable platform and powerplant. Everything else that is added, id so that they sell them to the people who want all the buttons to push, and automatic this and that.
I’ve had fully loaded and all it was was that many more things to fail.

Seriously. It looks like a pretty awesome car, but I admit I'm completely baffled as to why they built it the way they did.

Because that’s what all the companies are doing these days. Shared platforms cut costs. And whether you’re a BMW fan or not, that motor delivers good power and reasonable economy (depending on transmission).

the whole thing about the "battery dying=cant use the tailgate" is just a typical situation for GM, where they are so concerned about gizmos and fancy doodads to sell the cars, that they overlook basically usability of the vehicle. Another example, anyone here own a 93-97 firebird? They were so concerned about cramming an LT1 engine into the engine bay that they overlooked people wanting to change spark plugs. To change the #8 spark plug, you had to remove the glovebox, and DRILL A F**CKING hole through the firewall to reach the spark plug. Some people dropped the engine, others invented fancy tools.. but that was and is GM.
