Well, the Mrs. and I became Empty Nesters this past Sunday. Our son bought a house and our daughter is renting from him.

All of a sudden, BANG! Here we are in this strange feeling house with 2 empty rooms, lights turned off, no dishes in the sink, 2 laundry loads a week instead of 500, only 2 cars out front, etc. It's a new found freedom and, for the most part, I like it, A LOT.

We know it's going to be an adjustment as our house was the "hub" of activity for our kids and all of their friends. We also had dinner together, at the table, as a family, pretty much every night (which my daughter already misses).

    Anybody else? Any tips?

We do enjoy each others company and she puts up with my crap, so, that's a plus.

My tip? GO. GO LIKE THE WIND. Things that y'all have thought might be nice to 'someday checkout'? TODAY'S THAT DAY. Don't wait until you're too old to enjoy them.

I was stationed in Alaska in my 20's, and still vividly recall seeing a group of tourists at a popular scenic spot one day. Among the group, there was an old codger in a wheelchair who was somewhere between 150 and 200 years old. He was being shoved along, but it was painfully obvious that he was getting nothing out of his visit. I don't know that man's life story, but I do know that moment has stuck with (influenced) me ever since. So, GO.

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy it! We became empty nesters about 2 years ago. I love it! My wife, sometimes not so much. She says she gets bored. What!!!! Go do the things you couldn’t do when we had kids here. She’s also retired, I’m not. She needs to use her imagination!

It all depends on where the kiddies move off to.
If they're close by, yeah I can dig it.
If they're far away it sucks.
My oldest left home 20 years ago our youngest, 11 years ago.
Oldest moved way, way down south, youngest 600 miles away.
We/they visit occasionally but truth be told, we miss them terribly.

I like the empty nest! Cost me $5G's to get the millennial daughter out on her own and worth every penny! Love the kids but not living with them is great too.

Oh, we have, we do, and we plan to do more.

They're 2.5 miles away so, that's close enough.

Lol... The daughter called a little while ago and invited us over for dinner tomorrow.

    I guess we're going.

Do it. She is proving to you that ya did a good job raising her. There is a psychological reason for it, but I'm not a psychiatrist....

Ok, it feels weird at first but it will settle down. My kids moved away at different times to college, then came back, both moved away again to Hawaii, my son got married there now he's coming back. Daughter is in the works for OCS/Flight training with The Worlds Finesest US NAVY soo She's off and running. My son and his new wife are gonna stock up on some cash then start their lives in Idaho. So we've transitioned several times from Empty nesters, part time empty, full house and back again. ENJOY EVERY SECOND OF YOUR NEW FOUND FREEDOM and watch the chaos unfold when the come home again, bags, clothes dishes stuff exploded all over your house. Its quite comical!

    Enjoy your time alone together!
When the wife and I became empty nesters, we got to really know each other again. We like spending time together. It’s nice to be able to do what you want when you want again. It’s also nice to be able to rub buckles when you want to.
My daughter and her family live 6 miles away. That’s a nice distance. We get to see them pretty much whenever we want to.
My son lives 2K miles away with his family. That’s way to far but he has a good life and family there. We get to see them in person a few times a year. Thanks to technology, we get to see online them quite often.

It'll be an adjustment, but enjoy. Then when they come to visit it'll be all good. Our oldest has been gone for 9 yrs now (military) and our youngest just graduated law school and live abut an hr away.

I've wanted one of these since the early 2000's. Problem being it wouldn't get much use now and would sit out back in the AZ heat.

I'll snap one up if I see a smoking deal but the plan is to get one a year before I retire in 4 years. It's actually the primary reason we bought the Tundra.

C-Dory 22. Pretty much the "FJ40" of small cruisers. Very rugged, utilitarian, simple, and easy to maintain. Bonus is it's a camper when it's on the trailer too.

Those are very nice! I actually considered those when I was looking at trailerable boats. Ended up with a slipped boat, but it would still be nice to have something to tow around.

Our son and new daughter-in-law live in Corpus Christi and are coming down weekend after next for a couple of days. They are trying to start a family, so D-I-L convinced him to trade in his 2016 Jeep for a new Subaru Outback for safety reasons. I went with him when he was shopping here in Houston. I was calling it a "Lesbian Limo" and it got him pretty good. LOL I ordered the sticker below to put on his new car right before they leave our house. His new wife is going to laugh her arse off. She has a good sense of humor....LOL

Ain't no water where I live so trailerable is about the only option. Besides, I figure once I retire I'll have plenty of time on my hands to go where I want. Too many beautiful places to go explore. And, I'll just camp in it along the way.

Great Loop is one of my bucket list items

    Lol.... You're scaring me man!!!

Lol... I think she misses family dinner time. Growing up she was the one who would always get bent out of shape if we missed sitting down at the table for dinner. It has huge value to her.

Please tell your daughter "Thank You!" for serving. My son is CSAR in the AF reserves ( he's full time in an ART slot though). Super proud of him (both of them actually).
