Glare is bad in sunny condition, would say it’s the same as the oem HU.

Mine auto dims with headlights... But yeah the screen is more "glossy" than the OEM. I imagine you could get a screen cover made at your local mall kiosk.

As the others have said, the screen is glossy, but I haven't noticed any problems with glare. The IPS screen is very bright and clear from any viewing angle. On my OEM screen, I couldn't have polarized sunglasses on because it would turn the screen essentially black. I don't have any problems with polarized sunglasses and this screen. Mine also goes into dark mode when the headlights are on in some apps.

The polarized glasses and oem screen is a problem for sure.

No issues in my second gen, all I had was the crappy 6 disc changer so can’t do a before/after. Mine dims when with headlights.

I also just upgraded my Apple CarPlay box and .apk to the 5/19 version and what a difference, so stable now.

Actually didn't need to do any special wiring. Just connected the "trigger" wire to the yellow FCAM power wire and it fired right up.

Front cam installed. Works great. Low light performance is lacking, but should be good in the day time.

Got my unit installed. How did you run the wire? I'm not that comfortable snapping trim off but it looks or sounds like a must. Is there a good resource for that?

That's what I saw too which is really disheartening. So far I like the unit, getting use to it and choosing a UI that is comfortable for me. The USB isn't working for some reason but I'll investigate when I run the microphone later.

@VTYOTA how would the wire route through the plastic housing on non powered stock side mirrors? Might be having a brain fart but not sure how the wire would be safe from the mirror closing manually if ran through the inside.

I haven't gotten any further with it. I need to get my new HU in order then relax a bit so the wife doesn't get too suspicious. But it is on my "look into list". I know it could be done but I'm not wanting the entire screen taken up with the camera feed. I want a small pop up like a lay over for half or quarter of the screen on the appropriate side. That's the current deal breaker for me. I've dabbled in programming so I'm going to work on an app that allows PIP window when fed from the blinker.

You just leave enough slack so that it doesn't pinch/pull the wire when closing. The same goes for the harness that is already inside the mirror for your heated mirrors. This is a thread for installing puddle lights in OEM non-tow mirrors.

I REALLY like where you put your camera, but, the bottom of the license plate holder is pretty loose. Isn't the image a little bit shaky when you're driving down the road?

The license plate holder is loose front to back, but solid up and down. Haven’t noticed any issues with it shaking. Works really well so far. It is very discrete and wouldn’t notice it is there unless you were looking for it.

If I were to have any issues, I would just add 2 more screws toward the bottom of the license plate holder.

So I got the max 6 sorry for the lack of updates. I have installed it and it works pretty well. It looks amazing in my opinion. Came with a canbus adapter to integrate with jbl from Dasaita.
    Pros:
    - sound improvement wakes the jbl system up
    - capacitive 10" screen
    - RGB buttons
    - fast and lots of storage

    Cons:
Disclaimer I installed myself so may be my error on some
    - hissing / electrical noise out of speakers when on and volume up, it goes away when volume is on zero
    - steering wheel control mapping sometimes forgets itself
    -Fader is non functional
-needs new launcher stock is kinda garbage
Replaced with Nova launcher and it kicks ass
    - I use a USB to transfer apks over as playstore on the HU limits apps because of compatibility sometimes.

I am going to try to remedy the hissing noise with re grounding the head unit onto the subframe under the dash. I just used thebfactory ground with the canbus harness. If anyone has any suggestions to help with any of the cons please do speak up. Also if anyone has questions I'll try to answer anything.

I ran the ground wire to the factory amp location. Greatly reduced the hissing noise.

Thank you! I get it now. Now the issue I am trying to figure out is what camera to use. Do you think you could use a regular rear/front camera on the sides? The ones mentioned here (specifically the 3T6B Side Camera) look good but it does not seem to be securely mountable in the housing. It looks like you would attach it via double sided tape or some adhesive. I was looking around Amazon and googled but came up empty handed with real solid recommendations for "Side View" cameras.

@Topherwv I hear you. I don't mind it taking over the whole screen, actually I think it would be great for my wife for when she drives the truck. If I can find some decent looking cameras, I will be the guinea pig for this

I used this as my front camera and would be more secure because you would bolt it to your mirror housing. You would have to drill a hole for the bolt, but you would have to drill a hole for any camera to route wires anyways. I don't see why it wouldn't work as a side camera with the 170* viewing angle.

    https://www.amazon.com/NATIKA-Backup-Camera-Waterproof-Reverse/dp/B07H852D49/

This was in the Q&A part of the product page:
Q:Anyone using this camera on a 2016+ Tacoma as a front camera?
A:I used it on a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 for front and side cameras and a friend used it on his 2018 Tacoma same body style as 2016 the camerashave OEM fill good Quality. he also used anytime back up camera kit for install."
