Howdy folks..... I need some advice! A little over a month ago I took the kids to the local zoo. While inside someone decided to play bumper cars with my truck. Immediately noticed it when we walked out. No note was left and a police report was made. Pics are attached (1 and 2) [IMG]

Fast forward to February 19th.... I dropped it off at a reputable local body shop for the repair. I got an email Tuesday morning (21st) stating that a supplemental check was going to be sent out to the body shop because more damage was found. I called the shop and they said that the grill needed to be replaced. This surprised me. You can look at the photos and see that no damage was remotely close to the grill. They indicated that one of the clips on the grill were broke. I feel like it was probably broken when the fender was removed for repair. Of course I will never get them to tell me this. Anyway, the insurance company is in for another $1,100 and I was without the truck for another few days because they had to wait on grill and wait for the laser (whatever its called) to be programmed by Toyota.

On the way home tonight from ball practice I decided to ride by to see if the truck was back from Toyota. I wish i hadn't folks!!!! The truck is on full display in front of the shop. All cleaned and tires shined. It looks like total ass!!!!!!!!

As you can see from the damage photos, the damage was to the front passenger side door and the passenger's side front fender. MY GOD LOOK AT THE COLOR DIFFERENCE!!!! What should I do? This is what I'm thinking..... do not pick it up and do not pay them (3 party insurance check) and notify the insurance company. Again, this is a reputable company and located in a small town (less than 500) that I grew up in. Everybody knows everybody here and this company has gotten tons of awards!

I also want to stress that they haven't called me to tell me it is done but it has been cleaned and vacuumed!

    Thoughts??

    Yeah it doesn’t match.
Point it out and ask them to get it right. You didn’t buy a two tone truck.

That’s ridiculous. Unreal and I feel for you. I’d be furious and no way on this earth do they see a dime. I’d take it somewhere else. Totally unacceptable. It’s probably even worse in person. Awards? Pfft

Unacceptable.. be firm. Even if you're out of a truck for several weeks, that needs to be corrected.

You haven’t even talked to them yet? They probably haven’t called you because the truck isn’t ready as you can see. Maybe they’re trying to take care of it before calling you and wasting your time.

I got rearended around Thanksgiving. I had my insurance handle everything. MetLife uses Service King. Service King did a damn good job. If you get any resistance....you have Service King near you I'm thinking. Let them do it right

Just trying to be the devils advocate here. Could’ve painted it and detailed it and gotten it outside in natural light and said “oh crap don’t call him yet “ lol. How’s the weather been maybe they have had it stored indoors and under fluorescent light or something. He should just call em cant hurt

Let us hope so...... Would you clean it up and put it on full display in front of your business.... I wouldn't!

Again, though.... I was totally up front about not talking to them yet or them saying it was complete.

    Damn....
I wonder if the paint supply store's machine didn't mix the paint properly. That looks like the type of paint job for a truck which is headed to a Buy Here Pay Here lot...
I personally wouldn't even accept it.

Yep, I’d call and ask about the progress on your truck. Give them a chance. If they say it’s done, then do a walk around and don’t sign anything until your satisfied. If they push back, call your insurance company. Personally, I don’t think a lawyer is needed. Yet.

Look, it's possible that they thought it was good and then took it outside and realized it wasn't. Call them and find out what is going on and if they say it's done then at that point make sure you don't sign ANYTHING at all. They insurance company would send someone out to look at it and no one would say that it matches since it clearly doesn't. That most definitely doesn't match and since they might be trying to get one past you I would look closer at the items that they are saying that they changed out and fixed as well.

Seems like there are a lot of body shops putting out crap work. Just like in the woodworking industry its hard to find a good custom finisher. I blame it on all the chemicals they breathe in...Most of the guys out there are half brain dead because of it. Completely unacceptable.

Looks like they used that new color ... Magnetic Sky Cement.

I would not call them. Let them make the next move, you have seen the truck and they do not know that.
See if they make any effort towards correcting the obvious debacle before they let you know it's ready.

If they call tomorrow and say it's ready...
Contact your insurance company, and say you would like one their assessors to accompany you to look at your truck. This way the shop has to deal with it right then and there, and you don't have to be the one causing the fuss in your small town. You decline taking the truck, because that's what the assessor will recommend to do. (Just remind him/her that they are on your side!)
Yeah it sucks, but it can be fixed. If that shop has the awards you mentioned, it should not have to get ugly. Good luck.

It's hard to believe that a reputable shop would have that sitting out where everyone can see it. It sure isn't good advertising for them.
