Colorado brethren. Anyone know of some easy off road trails, that are not too far from Denver (<2 hr drive), that are good for a Sunday fall drive to check out the fall colors? (and yes, I like doing that and I have a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte with me at the same time. Judge me if you must!)

Wanna get away from the crowds and avoid popular spots (unless it is a must do trail). Let me know if you know of some good spots. Thanks in advance.

@COMiamiFan you could try hall valley rd off of 285, deer creek or st. John trail near Montezuma Rd. / Keystone. Your Starbucks will taste better in the altitude.

New to Durango Area, With winter coming Looking for advice on chains and over all what I need to be prepared. I drive from Durango to Farmington for work leave around 5:30-6am return around 5pm.

Should I have a set of chains in the truck? Chains or cables? Truck is 4X4 and should be on some new 315 K02's soon. I plan to put some weight in the bed. Any advice would be awesome I am from Arizona where we see snow on the local Mt. once or twice a year.

8 years strong and never had to use chains. Know how to drive in the snow first.

There may be certain highways that require chains to keep going and the chain Las will go into effect. If you plan on being on a busy highway that may require them (i70, for example) bring them just in case.

Plenty of suggestions for new snow drivers...one being- if you're at a light and it's now green, do NOT go. Wait a few seconds and look both ways multiple times.

4x4 does not mean better stopping. There may be a time where you'll need to run the red vs trying to stop (you'll spin out)

If you ever find yourself in a spinout, look at where you want to go; not where you don't (pole, car, etc) don't want to go. Practice this in a empty parking lot.

    I can keep going :D

Assuming you know not to be in 4x4 high when making slow turns. Trucks don't like that ;)

Tundras handle great I the snow. Sounds like you have good tires coming too. + what Sean said and you'll be aiight.

I drive from Pagosa to Durango every M-F, I have studded snow tires but I also deal with a lot more snow than you would. I would make sure that you have weight in the back so it doesn't get squirrely. From my experience with the area you might need chains\studded tires once a winter season going down 550.

Oh I'd believe that! I know a few rich farmers up on the NE plains that head to AZ the minute corn harvest is done in the fall, then come back once it starts warming up.

Hey Z, do any of these rich farmers let Tundra owners hunt pheasant on their land while they are basking in the sun??

I used to hunt phez out east every season, but then it dried up out there. I should head out there this year and see whats up. Its been at least 3 years since I headed that way.

Since moving out here to Burlington, I've seen more pheasants than anywhere else. I've been told that the reason is how much sorghum is grown down here.
