When buying any compressor, the most important number is usually air flow in CFM (cubic feet / min.) the higher the airflow, the faster you’ll fill your tires. The compressor I bought claims 70 liters per min or 2.5 CFM. The inexpensive VIar 77P is rated at 1 CFM. Just an FYI. But of course any compressor is better then none when you need it.

Ok, I just checked and my 12 volt outlets are rated for 120 watts max. That's about 10 Amps. Your portable compressor is likely pulling 15-20 amps. That's why it's getting so hot. I'd hate to see the wires behind the dash.

I woke up thinking about this stuff.
You're a good human, Francis! :fistbump:

    I do!
I kinda learned the info about 'duty cycle' last year when we worked through this in the Shenanigans thread, but I didn't (don't) really understand amps. I appreciate what @SoCalPaul shared about amp draw from a cig lighter; Eeeek!, now I'm afraid to look behind my dash... but more afraid to use my compressor again. If I'm reading the specs right, the one I have draws... 25 amps?!! :eek2:

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CDW2MCM

THIS ONE ^ SoCalPaul bought reads like it also draws 25 amps!?!!

So now I guess I'll start wading through reviews and specs. Sure are a lot more options than there were last year. And, anyway, not much is more entertaining than reading information translated from Chinese to English by an algorithm bot! ;)

I got this one, was looking at it before @JDL17CM4x4 said he got the same one...you plug into your battery and run the engine and air up. Haven't tried yet, but I think I will practice before the next trail.

Just wondering... Couldn't a person just a get a portable Air tank, Fill it at home with my own compressor, and use that for my trips. Doesn't help when i run out... but i wouldn't have to pay for a CO2 refill. Just curious :)

I don’t think you would have enough air volume in a 5 gallon portable air tank to air up all 4 tires especially when you upsize the tire and run a smaller diameter wheel.

The Viair 77P you posted says 15 amps max draw, 50% above the 12 Volt outlet rating. The one I posted says 25 amps max draw - Don't use it in a cigarette lighter or standard 12 volt outlet.

A twin will generally have twice the airflow of a single.

It takes me longer to explain it in this video than it does to actually air up. Maybe someday I’ll time myself, but I’d guess it’s about 7 minutes from the time the wheels stop rolling to the time we’re driving away. All 4 37s from 20 psi to 37.

@nishibot mark me down for now as maybe. My calendar does not show anything but need to confirm with Ashlynn.

Anyone camping at any of these Yellow Post spots that night?

Probably no one camping due to Father's Day on the 16th. Those yellow post are all awesome spots though!

Not yet. I'm gathering parts before I dig in. So most likely 2wd for this run, I'll take lots of photos of everyone and maybe a few 1 armed Hoonigan sideways slides. I need a Kibbetech handbrake....wait, that would take 2 hands to operate
