Dang. I re-read my last post, and I sound kinda bitchy. :angrygirl:

Sorry, Friends; that's not how I meant it. I've been carrying a small compressor that I loved... but the on/off toggle doesn't work, so as soon as I plug it into the cig adapter it's running. After Cleghorn, I accepted air from a couple of guys, one of whom was @Porschetech29 (thanks, Fellas!), just to avoid holding the group up, heading to the after party.

Anyway, although mine still works, it's time to choose another. So I think I'll either bite the bullet for on-board air, or get an air tank because-- it's obvious-- that seems to be muy fast!!

Anyway, we've all got radios. Probably time to get independent on airing up, so we're all ready to support the "young" Shenanigans coming up behind. ;)

I think if some 1 goes air tank it would be better to get a CO2 system. I think u fill up pretty quick that way.

Depends what kinda tank you have.

I use a 10# co2 tank and it’ll fill my tires up for 6-8 trips.

If you get an air tank connected to a compressor than you’re pretty much endless!
Just slower once the tank empties and you’re relying on the compressor.

I really like how fast and easy my co2 set up is but it gets annoying having it filled so often. (6-8 trips if I were only filling my tires, but I usually end up filling 1-3 other vehicles so I only get 1-2 trips out of it. $20-25 to fill the tank adds up too)

Big but not ridiculous. @Porschetech29, @eccracer104, @KevinK are 3 guys I know carry compressed air. They're about half the size of the helium tanks you get when you rent one to blow up balloons for a kids party, if that helps you visualize. It's waaaay faster than any compressor I've seen. I *want* a compressor, but won't *need* one til I get locker(s). If I knew how to build one utilizing a manifold with separate lines to each tire, I'd do that... but I need to see that install. @831Tun ans @KevinK have this going on, one with on-board air, one with a nitrogen tank. So... gotta work out whether to grab another cheapy hand-held compressor or go for a tank.

I have a ARB twin mounted in the engine bay with a mount from Sharkbite Motors. Its an almost exact copy of Bannocks. I will show it to anyone that wants to see it.

If time is tbd still the earlier the better for me. If it’s too late I actually won’t be able to go. My wife just told me that we have a party to go to in the afternoon.

This is the real reason we need to stop relying on @Porschetech29. We all manage to make our truck payments; but none of us would want to buy air for everyone every trip....

We each should swing for some type of hand-held compressor. :spending:

Sorry wasn’t trying to start all this debate about who has a compressor or not. I was mostly being sarcastic as both runs I’ve been on, I have seen him pull out his co2 or air lines from his on board compressor and help every any 1 that needs it. I haven’t aired down(maybe not the smartest) but I have survived.

Don't be, it’s a very good topic to discuss!

It’s one of those things that most people aren’t really aware of at first and the only way they’ll know/learn is from us talking about it or first hand on the trail.

I’ve ran a pieced together co2 setup for about 10 years. Last year I added the ARB dual and two 3 gallon tanks when I decided to add the lockers. There are pros and cons for each system. Co2 is fast when airing up tires and it is very portable. I personally got tired of filling the co2 tanks. Budget should be another consideration when deciding which method to use.

Don’t worry about it @Sunnier, you know I’m always down to help when I can. I usually don’t even carry my co2 tank anymore. I brought one the last two trips just to help out those that didn’t have

And I wasn't being critical, just wanted to capitalize on the opening you accidentally provided, to see if I could conversations and motivation to all get up to speed on air, like we all got radios. :)

I would like to add as I have done a little research on portable compressors. You need to pay special attention to the duty cycle of the compressor. The longer the better.
    I think @Sunnier will agree

The alleged duty cycle of the above compressor is 20 min continuous with 10 min off. It literally took about 2 minutes per tire for me.

“In order to extend the life of the Tire Inflator, please do not continue to work for more than 20 minutes, avoid damage to the fuse in the cigarette lighter due to excessive temperature. Our recommendation is to cool for 5-10 minutes after 20 minutes of work and continue working.”

Yeah, my little handheld does great (I just worry, now that the toggle switch had failed) that it could quit at any time. I ordered 3 separate compressors before I found one with a power cord that reaches from cig adapters to all 4 tires.
Yeah, the plug that gets inserted into the cig adapter gets unbelievably :bananadead:. I chose the cig adapter option because I didn't want to have to open the hood to air up. I like being low-key if it's just me out somewhere. But I can see benefits of the type that attach to posts on the battery.

I just checked over on the SoCal Shenanigans BS thread. The 'products discussed' area at the bottom of each page still shows most of the options we've bought or recommended. The one I have, I'll probably buy again for this price, especially after Mike's reminder that tanks need $$ to maintain, whereas compressors add air you don't pay for!

I worry about the amps coming through the cigarette lighter. Of course I also just removed my lighter to install my Android Auto / Apple CarPlay connectors.

The cord on my compressor is 3 meters which should reach all the tires from the cigarette lighter.

Running an extension seems like a good idea; it's just not one I thought of back when I first bought one. But if you're running an extension cord, won't the compressor draw the same, so won't that still heat up the adapter in the cig lighter? :notsure:

My adapter got warm, but not hot to the touch. With the extension, the power isn’t coming through the behind dash wiring, but directly from the battery through the extension cable. Also the clamps on the extension cable are much higher quality then what came with my compressor. I’m not sure about the size of the wire behind the dash, but that could explain why your adapter is getting so hot. Best to have it all outside the truck IMO.
