Oh, I’m sure the engineers will just put a strap around it and tow it out with a Super White Tundra.

There are a lot of people who's weekly trip to town just got a lot longer. Hope they get it fixed quickly. A lot of those small businesses between Dolores and Telluride are going to feel it.

    From CDOT:

    #BoulderBusting
A crew has successfully blasted one of the massive boulders that destroyed a section of CO 145 between Cortez and Telluride. CDOT officials are extremely pleased with the outcome. Trucks immediately started hauling the fragments away so that traffic can begin flowing on a temporary road being built by CDOT’s maintenance division. The task of hauling away the rubble may not be completed until tomorrow, (Monday, May 27).

The enormous 2.5-million-pound rock (or 1150 tons) tumbled and plowed its way to the two-lane highway from a ridgeline some 1000 feet above on Friday.

CDOT officials say the second massive boulder, which created an eight-foot trench across both lanes and landed on the east side of the road, may remain where it sits.

I may just have to run the scooter down there when it's back open and have me a gander.

I drove one of those things for a year running service calls. Could load a crap load of computers in it, got like 38 miles a gal, put 100,000 miles on it in a year but I sure didn't fit in the thing. I could reach over with my right hand and roll down the window without leaning. :eek2:

The Scion line were such practical little cars. We have an XA that we have put through some torture, never failed. I love a no frills economy car. I had a hard time fitting in it too.

Pretty sure every male on earth would have loved to see that sucker tumbling down the hillside. I think it's hardwired into the male psyche that rocks + hill = entertainment. The bigger the rock, the bigger and steeper the hill, the better. The Woman shakes her head at me when we're out hiking and I push random rocks off cliffs. I can't be the only one. :D

Back in the 60s (when I was in the Boy Scouts) I witnessed a rock about this size tumble down the side of a mountain. We were hiking in the high Sierras and suddenly, across a small lake we were hiking by we were startled by the sound and could actually feel it in our feet as it came crashing down. At first we thought it was going into the lake and we were afraid of a giant tidal wave that would head right towards us. It stopped maybe a 100 feet short.
