Mine was added as a third key. My locksmith said he does not like "cloning" because of past issues.

Sure thing. I know several people are attempting this with varying results. The locksmith told me that I had to pay regardless of whether he could get it to work, so I agreed and took the gamble. The hardest part was programming the remote because you have to hold both lock and unlock down for 2 seconds at the same time and then one of them for 1 second - the buttons are a little stiff, so it took him 3 tries, but in the end it works. Total time was about 15 minutes including the time it took him to read the instructions.

I had to remove the imobilizer chip from the original key and tape it to the new key fob to find the correct place for it so my truck stay running. Now that i found the right spot for it i am going to imbed it into the fob so that it is fitting flush. I'll post a pic. When i get done with it

What about putting the chip in the steering column and using any key you want that will fit in the tumbler ? Just an Idea:)

Buyer beware of the Ebay "Toyota" key fobs. They will not last! Toyota does not program them because most of them are not genuine Toyota products.

I bought one one Ebay and had my local locksmith cut and program it. It worked great but for a VERY short time. And the locksmith said that would happen.

Nice. I'm kinda surprised Toyota still has such archaic keys for these trucks.

It is one of few things I don't like about the Tundra. I liked my push button starts...

Just ordered my switchblade key from eBay after referring to my local locksmith to make sure he has proper equipment to program. I’ll update as soon as I get it complete. Looks like I’ll be in it for about $80 for key and programming.

048.jpg I got a switchblade key almost two years ago. Looks like my wife's VW switchblade, about the same quality. The only difference is its Toyota emblem, instead of the VW emblem. There's a dirth of locksmith's in my little rural town, and neither Walmart nor the local Ace Hardware could cut the key. The one locksmith in town managed to cut one side of the key, but when turned over the FOB got in the way of the cutting machine frame, and he couldn't finish the job. He wouldn't charge me and referred me to the next closest locksmith, 50 miles away. There was no guarantee that he could do it either. Anyway I ended up cutting the rest of the key with a small triangular file. :p Programmed the key myself with Techstream. The key has lasted now for that two years or so. No sign of wear on the hinge or anything.

Hmmm.... that was supposed to be a thumbnail pic....

Home depot or lowes will do it you just have to be kind of a prick about it. They were sued or something because a key didn't work so technically they won't do it because its a smart key. I gave the key guy at our local home depot a sob story of how the wifes car was in the parking lot with a broken key and we needed a new one cut as we had the transponder but the key part broke. He did it for free so there was no record of it lol. I used techstream to program her key with no issue. However her car won't go into program mode for the remote part for some reason...

I paid $20 for a obd2 cable and down loaded tech stream and programmed it myself.

I do like the Switchblade key much better too. That switchblade key is the only thing VW was good for

I order the same and it cost $40 program and 3 to cut. I guess we are lucky guys, people are having issues getting it programsed. I jsut need to install a diffent remote start so I can use this fob and the use the 3 click method

My switch blade key/fob does not work with the OEM remote start in my truck. Will unlock/lock and start with key just fine, but no remote start.

I currently have the Fortin Evo One installed. I am looking into this key/fob since it makes so much more sense to have just one housing for a key and unlock/lock functionality. I will let you know if the remote starter works if/when I get this key fob. I am sending you a PM for how you got it programmed.

That is the exact reason why I wanted this fob. Hate carrying extra stuff on my Keychain. I will be waiting patiently for the Install.

So my newly programmed switch blade key does indeed work my factory remote start. It may have something to do with the programmer the locksmith used. It was a brand new programmer he just had gotten in. I listed it in a link in my previous post.

XTool X100T. This programmer did the job in about 30 seconds and also did the remote start. It is obviously a professional’s tool for the price of $450, but you might ask your local locksmith if he/she has one. It programs the remote only, not the key. The key was a separate procedure.

Note - the 30 seconds is after the app download, Bluetooth connection, and read through of instructions. But once everything was set up, just hold buttons for a few seconds and it worked.

I have the same key from the same seller. I wonder if there is just something I need to turn on with techstream? I'll have to look into this. locksmith followed the process within his tool (different one than posted), but didn't ask about remote start and I didn't think about it until later. I don't really use remote start, so I didn't think about it. Glad yours works!

@ChucklesToy if you find yourself in Dallas, the locksmith is Golden’s Keys on Garland Rd. I was the first Toyota he programmed with the new machine, and he is looking for customers. I don’t use remote start much either, and was surprised that it worked. I am happy with the upgrade so far. Hopefully key lasts. It is just like a key on my wife’s previous 2003 VW.

Got my switchblade key. Was able to program the keyless fob part using Techstream software. Unfortunately, no one around me would cut the key. Ended up having a mobile automotive locksmith come out and cut the key and program. I was tempted to ask him not to program it because i have the techstream software, but i've noticed that since i've had my cheapo cloned VIM cable, i can't connect to the "immobiliser" immobilizer module. So maybe it was better that i just paid this locksmith to handle it for me. That being said, anyone have any issues with the VIM cable not connecting to the immobilizer module within techstream? im able to connect to all the other modules (including the one to program the fob). i have a 2015 Tundra limited.. please share if you have seen anything like this.

Going on week 1 with my switchblade key and no issues thus far. Local locksmith programmed in less than 25min and charged me $80. As long as it lasts I’ll be in good shape.
