A lot of vehicles come off the truck and get damaged during shipment. Or lot guys hit something moving the cars. Weve seen it a lot at the dealership we work with. Gives us work and its repaired to factory specs but happens all the time. Bring it back to the dealer and ask them.

I had the dealer repaint the area and it came back a year later (2019). Also, I started to see this on the other rocker panels and the roof.

That sucks. I would keep pressing the dealer on it. And be like this keeps happening. And get the service manager involved and if they dont do anything head up to the owner. They dont want a bad rep.

I've seen the issue on 3rd gen tacomas. go to TW and you will see plenty of people with the same issue as yours.

Toyota is known for excellent paint. Outside of some minor orange peel, I've never seen anything like this. Same for Lexus.
In short, I agree with the previous comment. Some knuckleheads damaged the pillar and Earl Scheib'ed it.. I'd raise hell at dealership over it. I highly doubt that was a corporate approved repair. That has to be sanded, primed, shot and cleared. Keep us posted.
