I get those type of numbers frequently nowadays. Granted mine's mainly highway driven and a 2008.

I usually get great gas mileage in the range of 50 - 65mph... anything below or above and its garbage. Unfortunately, my commute is a mix of speeds, and I do not drive slow or below a certain RPM. I average about 13.5 - 14.5 depending on my mood. Longer road trips Ive averaged almost 18.0 doing mostly 75 - 80 so I know its just my commute and my heavy right foot. Man, after my new exhaust my mpg went down... sometimes way down... but that's why i got an exhaust lol so myself and a couple thousand of my closest friends on the freeway can hear it (whether they like it or not ).

Three tanks down now...stock...Michelin ATXs, also stock, aired at 42 psi all around. 21.3, 18.7, 18.9. I drive this thing like I drive my FJ...like it won't do over 65!...pretty damned impressed with the mpg so far. No complaints here.

I'm now at 15.1 average. 2800 miles. Each tank starts in the 16's and by the end I'm in the 14's.

What is the ideal tire pressure to achieve the best gas mileage? I saw an earlier poster mention the factory settings yield bad fuel economy.

horrible gas mileage for a half ton truck with a 5.7 engine which is actually not that big its 350cubic inch which has always been considered a small v8. Im getting 14-13 mpg freeway no where near 18 as advertised some towing/ with 2016 5.7 two wheel drive 18k ODO. I have seen the same mpg from a 04 3/4 ram 2500 5.7 crewcab gas 4x4 with 35's mud tires.

    Just filled up.
398 miles and 29.6 gallons. 13.445 mpg hand calculated. Onboard was at 14.9 mpg and i reset it at the last fillup. DTE was at 13 miles and I squeezed 29 gallons in it. Supposedly a 38 gallon tank (crewmax) but it sure doesn't seem like it. This is a mix of highway and rural.
Yeah- it's thirsty and winter blend will be worse if it's not already here.

    See fine print
Just did first road trip from sf to la. Got 14.06 mpg corrected for my 33" tires. Averaging 80mph with very little traffic. 5.7 4x4.

I get about the same mpg driving in town as this trip. Was weird, was expecting a little bump in mpg since it was all freeway.

Just bought another work truck. 2014 Tundra 1794 gets 11 in a city/highway combo. Onboard it says 11.5. 11 was hand calculated with three tanks of gas. Stock rims/tires. It's a real bummer when your other tundra gets 14 city/highway. The dealer has no clue. The one mechanic told me it's because of my aftermarket 20" rims. He swears it came with 17". These are the stock rims! Also had warped rotors. They said it was because the pads needed to adjust to the turned rotors.
Any ideas for what I could check now to determine why it is so terrible? I thought maybe they reprogrammed the computer for towing or something?

Is this for your Tacoma or a Tundra? My Tacoma gets 19 - 20.5 depending on season. Mostly hwy @ 65-70 mph. Reading this thread has me pushing back or completely reconsidering my Tundra purchase.

Buy the Tundra for its quality, power, great handling, great ride, great reliability and awesomely good looks that turn heads everywhere it goes.....NOT for its gas mileage! At 6,500 miles I'm getting a calculated 15mpg-highway right now. Even my 6-cylinder Taco that I traded for the Tundra got only in the 16-18mpg range.

I was holding steady at 13 flat for the first 15000 miles but I run big ko2 a topper and a rtt on the shell. And since then it's been climbing. I'm now up to an amazing 13.7 and I just rolled over 16k miles.

That Tacoma mileage for the highway? My Tacoma is consistently 16mpg city and 20-21hwy no matter how you drive it. My Tundra Mileage so far I have been happy with I'm averaging 14.5 city and that's loaded up with tools and towing my trailer most the week. Only open road I have done so far was 17.9 on my way home after I bought it and that was an average over 400miles and first 100miles was through the mtns. I had a 2014 Silverado before this and I was only averaging 15.6 for my city doing the same driving and towing same trailer, open road it would get 23.9mpg. That was for a 2wd 4.3lv6 so I'm more then happy with what my Tundra is pulling being 4x4 and v8. The Chevy had 3.23 gears so I had to work it harder to get the trailer moving for city driving, Tundra I am barely having to push. My uncle has a 2015 5.3l Silvy 4x4 and he's only pulling 15.6 average, that's unloaded and no towing, Tundra isn't that far off from the other full-size trucks IMO when your asking them to do actual work. Yes perfect condition unloaded highway the others will come out on top but if your using them as trucks its pretty close.

I don't look at my mpg. I have a lead foot and like to open her up a bit on I95/GSP when possible. I fill up when needed and have fun driving her :hattip::cheers:

One more data point. Just completed a +/-650 mile trip from Alabama to Texas. When moving, speed was 75-85 mph (don't judge - just keeping up with traffic) and AC was on most of the time. Trip included at least 1 hour of stop and go (mostly stop) due to spring break traffic. Below is a pic of my mileage as calculated by the onboard computer ...

So far i'm at 7000 km (4400 miles) and i'm getting 18l/100km 13.7mpg on stock truck (changed POS Dunflops for michelin defender's stock size first week I got it), but I am 1 minute from highway and drive at 135km/h 84mph all the time, plus I love the sound and power of that V8, compared to my Tacoma, always seem to be accelerating as fast as I can lol. But it's winter up here in Canada and I've been letting her warm up good before driving since I hit the highway in about a minute, there is also the winter gas. Hopefully she gets a bit better come spring. I drive a 2014 GMC work van with ladder rack on top for work and its just a little worse. But I love the truck, it purrs on the highway.

Hand calculate. See what you get . The mpg calculator sucks in these trucks. I get 19.4 mpg according to my Tundra. I actually average 12.7mpg.

Actually, for a a stock truck, mpg gauge is pretty accurate (well, at least it comes darn close to hand calculated values when carefully done).

It becomes less accurate immediately following a change in style of driving, etc. It need time for the ecu to catch up with the change.

Some mods seem to make the gauge less accurate. Upsizing tires, supercharger, etc.

For hand calculated values, I find that it's always difficult to gauge exactly when the pump clicks off. It depends a lot on how the pump is positioned. Also even at a same gas station, it seems to vary from pump to pump. Of course, you have to also trust your odometer or tripmeter, digital readouts at the pump, etc. So unless you could eliminate variation on that and other factors, hand calculation simply replaces one area of uncertainty with another.

19 - 20.5 on my Tacoma was hwy in rush hour traffic. 65-75 mph on a 30 mile commute with one stoplight. I run one size larger than stock Cooper ST Maxx in E loads with 1.75 lift on front.

It takes a bit to break in, I started at around 11.1, now I'm getting 15.0 and just went over 35K.

I do the math, my just turned 40K mileage. Mine has always gotten excellent MPG in my opinion for a 5.7L engine. I get 17 mpg hwy @ 75 mph, I have gotten 20 mpg hwy but I was driving 60-65 mph. I get 15.6 city driving. I just installed TRD dual exhaust getting 14.8 cause I'm loving the sound when I accelerate heavy. I also have K&N air filter, I clean every 6-8 months, I don't know if it makes a difference, got it the first week I got truck. Hope this helps.
