Don’t think so. There’s one on the steering wheel for lane departure alert, but not for BSM.

Nice, those should work well, just make sure they don't have built-in resistors. If they do, you'll have to cut them out. I actually used 3mm and they are a little small, might change them out for 5mm at some point. Link below shows a pic of the 3mm LEDs installed.

You can only turn the BSM/RCTA on or off, you can't trigger it. However, you can trigger the RCTA alert by putting the truck in reverse and having someone walk behind it.

    It’s in your dash settings.
    Far right icon.
You control it from the steering wheel buttons.

So all you folks who installed these mirrors, was there an initial BSM error warning that needed to be reset or something? I did a test install of one of the mirrors on my 2016 SR5-TRD and got an error saying "BSM failure, contact dealer" or something like that. I could make it go away by shutting off the BSM on the dash switch, but i would prefer to have that functional, especially because the Trail Ridge tow mirrors have that capability. Any ideas on how to remedy that BSM error before I decide whether to complete the install?

Also, i bought a replacement mirror control switch with the power fold button but my harness didn't have those wires. So i assume i need to get a replacement pigtail to wire up and enable that function. Right?

The OEM Tow mirrors do not have BSM, so if you install them without installing a new LED, the BSM system will fail. This thread goes over installing new LEDs in the sail panels to take the place of the missing BSM LED once you install the tow mirrors.

I don't believe the OEM tow mirrors are power-fold either, but if they are, then yes - you need to install new wires for that feature. There should be two slots in the harness, you just have to install the pins and then run two wires to both mirrors.

My original mirrors did have BSM, but I get what you are saying. The aftermarket Trail Ridge mirrors have a different resistance and the system senses that as an error. Or is that led addition because people don’t have BSM lights in the mirror. I better go back and read all these threads carefully.

The trail ridge mirrors have so many damn Lights (turn signals, running lights, read facing lights, puddle lights) I sure didn’t think I needed any more! Ok stay tuned. (It snowed a foot last night so I won’t be working on this again for a week.). Thanks all.

Ah yes, it's definitely going to be the resistance values. My power-fold mirrors came off a 2012 Limited and don't have BSM, so I had to install LEDs in the sail panels. Originally I installed resistors and that gave me the same errors you're seeing. I removed them and it's been working fine. Good luck.

Hello all. I just installed some tow mirrors I got off ebay. Everything appears to work, even a blinker located on the inside of the mirror however there's outside LEDs that are supposed to run the blinkers and the running lights and they do not light up off the factory harness. Any ideas how to fix this? I thought they would work since all the other features on the mirror works including the blinker on the inside of the mirror.

Do we know if it is possible to simply connect the two wires without adding an led light to complete the circuit and allow the system to function just without a functioning interior light?

I'd think that you'd be better off with looking up the resistance in an equivalent LED light and installing a resistor. If the computer doesn't like seeing no light there, maybe it gets cranky with a short instead?

Actually tried it today... made no difference. Guess I’ll be ordering some of those LEDs.

@dumbassdave Do you have a link for the ones you ordered. I tried the one posted earlier but it doesn’t seem to be working for me.

    Thanks!

And DONE!!! Works perfect!! I used these LEDs...

    https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/161910928088

They say there is a resistor in-line but upon testing it there are no error messages and during a test ride vehicles approaching from the rear set off either corresponding led in the sail panel.

When I replaced my stock mirrors with tow mirrors, there was no LED for the BSM system. I installed LEDs in the sail panels so that I still get a notification.

If you don't want BSM you can turn it off. My 2016 has a switch. Newer ones it's in the menu by the speedometer.

Yup. Tow mirrors with LEDS in the sail panels work just the same as non tow mirrors with LEDS built in the mirror. Rear cross traffic works just the same too.

How much clearance is there in the sail panel? I’m wondering if something like this would work.

    https://www.waytekwire.com/item/47641/Snap-In-Panel-Indicator-Light-47641-/

I prefer a larger LED than just 3 or 5mm.

Are the LEDs you got from eBay still working with no issues? I like these because they have a black plastic snap in base and the wire leads on the back, which should make them easier to connect. Any problems with the resistors?

They work great still. The built in resistors work with the system perfectly.

I simply stripped about 1.5” of the wire and wrapped it arounded the de-pinned wires and shrink wrapped it on there.

I installed OEM power fold tow mirrors today on my 2020 SR5. I haven't addressed the power fold feature yet (working on that), but spent several hours trying to get the BSM to work. I used T-pins, alligator clips and a variety of different LEDs to test. I was able to get the LEDs to light up most of the time (I had them connected on both driver & passenger side), but almost always got BSM and RCTA error messages in the center screen of my dash.

A couple of times the LEDs would work when I started the truck, but when I took it for a test drive and another vehicle approached from behind on right or left, the LED would light and then I'd get the error message. Sometimes the LEDs would light but then I'd immediately get the message. Later I used some LEDs that I assume don't have resistors in them, and they worked great until I shut the truck off for a few minutes. When I restarted, with no change in connections, I immediately got the error message and the LEDs would no longer illuminate.

Following is a diagram that I made of the stock SR5 mirror harness and the connectors on the back of my stock SR5 mirrors (with BSM), and then the new OEM power fold tow mirrors (no BSM). The shaded positions indicate that the mirror connectors have terminals/pins. The white positions mean they are blank (no terminals/pins). I've tried moving the black wire of the LED between positions.

    Screen Shot 2020-02-29 at 7.43.02 PM.jpg

Below I have the red wire connected at #9 (see above) and the black wire connected at #14. The LED wires are inserted directly into the back of the harness.

    IMG_0924.jpg IMG_0925.jpg

Here's a video of this setup working: https://youtu.be/Go5k746G4uU

It continued to work until I took it out in traffic. As soon as a vehicle approached from behind and the LED illuminated, I got the error.

    Error screen...

    IMG_0927.jpg

I also used T-pins with alligator clips for testing.

    IMG_0901.jpg

For this one, I connected the black wire to #18 (directly below the red wire at #9), and then used an LED that I assume does not have a resistor on it. This one worked from the time I started the truck, driving through traffic with both LEDs lighting up, until I turned the truck off. When I restarted it, I immediately got the BSM/RCTA errors, and the LEDs would not light up at all.

    IMG_0932.jpg

I'm a bit stumped at this point on what I am doing wrong.
