Shit. Just realized I posted this in the build section originally. Derp. Let's try again.

Busted my glove box latch today. It locked and wouldn't open (sound familiar!?) even with multiple keys, lube, jiggling etc. Went to get in there with a screwdriver to work the mechanism and must have put too much pressure in the wrong spot. It's completely busted now.

I can't find a replacement latch assembly anywhere. RockAuto doesn't seem to have them. There's not a single 1st gen Tundra in any of the wreckers within a 4+ hour drive that I could snag one from. Dealership is closed today.

Any ideas where I could find a replacement?

    That'd be great...if they didn't want $52 just for shipping. :(

So, if you get a new latch, does it come with a new key?
I don’t know where my key is to lock my glove box.

Shouldn't be a separate key one key works for everything.

My Papaw had a 2000 tundra.

Rear slide window was busted out, plexi-glass with a healthy amount of caulk for sealant.

4 different keys. One for ignition, one for glove box, one for gas door, and one for tailgate. Sketchy much?

Was a rebuilt title that he himself wrecked 3 times. One time he even ripped the side of the bed off of it with a road sign. One giant cluster-fuuuuuuuuuu.....

Truck was at a Buy here, pay here salvage lot when he got it. He got it for around 4K.

He wanted to sell it to me for 10K. I passed.

Long story short about the keys. Its possible, although highly unlikely that @Outbound s truck may have had a "repair" done on the glove box latch at one point in time. Different key.

He told me it was a great deal.

I told him "Papaw, I was there when you bought the truck. I know what you paid for it. It needs at least 2k worth of work to make it right."

He came down to 9,500. Lol

Yes. He then turned around and literally GAVE the truck to a family from his church. Signed it over, free, and clear.

@Outbound I don't know if it helps, but @lsaami is parting out an 02. Not sure if the glove box is the same, and shipping would suck. But canada is small enough I'm sure you could meet him at the MN/Canada border to save on shipping...

The lock mechanism gets swapped over to your new latch, at least with my truck. My ignition key also unlocks my doors and unlocks my glovebox. One key for everything.

Everything on my truck is OEM, at least that which I haven't screwed with. Other than breaking it, the latch isn't one of those things. :D

That's only 20 hours from me and the border is closed. :D

Jeez... I’m only about 5hrs from the border. Is the key mechanism part of the latch mechanism? You can dissemble the in the doors, I bet the glovebox latch is the same way. PM me a ZIP and I can estimate shipping for you to see if it’s worth it.

You should be able to remove the lock mechanism from the latch. PM inbound.

Yup. One key does everything on my truck.

I went to the dealer today and had keys made for my trucks. Confirmed, my OG key was worn and the new key locked my glove box.
