Tundra overspray

Do all tundras come with a little paint over spray on the lower right and left sides between the doors? I’m a newbie, so just wanted to make sure my tundra was normal. The paint doesn’t look smooth like the rest of the truck. The dealer said it’s for extra protection.

 

It is for protection you're not the only one I've got it

 

They all have that...not overspray. It’s a coating to help prevent rust and protect against rock chips, etc.

 

Yep- clear chip guard. Be happy it’s on there!

Down side to that is it. Changes a little bit in color over time but that’s better than having chips and flakes.

My Owner's Manual mentioned that Protective Finish but that was in 2010. Is Toyota still offering Owner's Manuals with it's vehicles

 

^yup,, but what I was not happy with is they stopped providing that faux leather book/s holder. Luckily my friend/salesman found one in a trade in vehicle or he went and found mine that was in my trade in.???

 

My 18 came with the leather Manuel holder.

Holy crap, my '18 came with an encyclopedia. It's gotta be 6 or 7 volumes crammed into that leather binder. Takes up most of the glove box.

 

How does Manuel feel about that?

Corinthian Pleather!!??? I like that one!! Mine have either been blank with black stitch or it had a silver Toyo emblem glued on it.

 

My '19 didn't have one either so I swiped it from my '14 I traded in.

 

Just had my crome running boards, w/ black rubber insert replaced. Finish went ugly. Warranty issue. 6 month old. They had no problem doing it

 

I like the book but I hate how it doesnt fit nicely in my glove box. That compartment area within the glovebox is so annoying. 2018 DC.

 

Totally agree. My 19 book barely fits in the glove box. I have very little room for anything else in there.

 

Chrome just seems to get ugly quickly. At least the chrome Toyota uses on those. I wonder how my predators steps will age. The Toyota tonneau trifold cover seems to have a similar finish to the predators steps as well. I haven’t seen negative feedback, but you can tell they’re not worth the 750 MSRP tag they tried to put on them IMHO

 

No glove box on my ‘18... just a locking container for the brick-like owners manual.

There's a good amount of room behind the dash garnish. Gives me ideas....

 

The extra paint has been a Toyota "signature" for 20 years at least.

 

Two things are being discussed here. The OP is asking about the texture in the painted surface along the rocker panel, doors, and fenders. There is also a clear film that is applied after paint in some areas for stone protection. @Baja Mike is correct...the texture in the paint has been on Toyota vehicles since at least '97. We owned a '97 Avalon that had it.

 

Seems like it would just be cheaper at this point to replace the Tundra Britannica with a small tablet or something. Each vehicle comes with a small forest... I’m not a conservationist, but it’s seriously a waste of $$, and I like oxygen.
