Newbie Lift Question (Shackles)

    RC 3/1 Leveling Kit, Blacked-out badges, stubby antenna, Husky floor liners, spray bedliner, low-profile toolbox, paracord wrapped grab handles, 33" Toyo Open Country M/T Tires,TRD Pro Headlights w/ LED Conversion,TRD Pro Grill, BAM TRD Replacement exhaust, TRD Shift Knob, TRD Rear Swayback bar
    I have a 2011 4wd Double Cab with a 3" Rough Country leveling kit (front lifted only). I can get a set of shackles that allow for 1"-2" lift heights in the rear.

    My questions are this:
    • If I'm only going up 1", can I still use stock shocks?
    • These are coming off a 2wd pickup. Are they safe for a 4wd also?

    Toytec and coach builder make the shackles you want.

    Toytec shackles are adjustable and are a pretty good buy if you ask me.

    I went with a little longer shock when installing my 1.25" shackle lift. You can get away with factory for a bit if you are not cycling the suspension (off-roading).

    I must admit I was set on a rear block, especially since I'm only going 1". I know most if not all say go with shackles and after reading all the post today, I think I'm going with the Toytec shackles. Seems like nothing bad is ever mentioned regarding shackle versus block. Plus, I like the option of either going 1" or 1.5".

    I know with CB, you must order the bushings but with Toytec it's an option. Is it necessary?

    Also, I really do plan on going 1" and staying with stock shocks. If I did decide for a little more lift and set them at 1.5", can I still get away with stock for the forseeable future?

    I'm assuming install is just as easy as blocks?

    I believe the bushings are $15. Allows better movement than with the stiff stock ones.

    The hardest part is to press out the old bushings from the leaf spring. Need to rent a bearing press tool from an auto parts store if you dont have one. Typically a deposit that you get back when you return.

    That's a bummer. Trying to stay inexpensive as possible, hence, installing myself. Decided the shackle would be better than block but now it sounds like with rentals and cost difference the price keeps going up. Back to the drawing board.

    All the auto parts stores I have rented specialty tools from charge a deposit fee, but you get the full amount back when you return the tool. So the tool rental really costs you $0 if you return the tool.

    I installed the bushings yesterday. I made my own press for about 10 bucks. Get a 1.5 inch iron tee and a plug. Drill a 1/2 inch hole in the center of the plug. A one ft piece of all thread, nuts and washers big enough to fit the outer sleeve of the bushing. Double up the washers. Double nut that end, line up the iron tee with the spring eye and start wrenching. Safe and easy.
