Has anyone connected their stock usb module to their aftermarket headunit for the use of android auto or apple car play? I order a part to connect it but my phone keeps disconnecting.

From what I understand, you can not use the stock usb port for android auto or apple CarPlay. I'm sure it could be done but youd pretty much have to remove the usb port parts and replace with a compatible usb. As it is right now, It will work as a usb input but you need to use the dedicated usb cord on the back of the head unit for android auto. I ran an extension on mine into my center console and plug my phone in to that.

I did in my 2015 Tacoma. Stock USB to adapter to Pioneer receiver USB, and used my phone via Android Auto with zero issues.

Funny you say that. Before I saw this post I discovered I had an extension cable plugged in. After removing it and plugging the adapter into the headunit's usb it worked!

Thanks everyone for your information. I hope this post helps someone else out

So you are using the factory USB that's located under the A/C controls? Does it work with Apple CarPlay? I am about to install a Kenwood in mine, but Crutchfield is telling me the factory USB won't work with CarPlay and I have to run a new USB.

I had to run a usb extension for my kenwood as well. My kenwood had a usb cord from the back specifically for CarPlay/android auto. I got an adapter for my factory usb port that plugs into a different cord on the back of the kenwood and it works as a charger and usb input but not android auto. I got a cheap $8 4 foot extension usb and connected to the kenwood usb cord and ran it down into my center console. Works perfectly.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I am not sure about Carplay considering I use Android Auto. I would assume that it would work if you connect to the specific usb like Kenwood has

No worries. I installed the head unit and the Carplay works through the factory USB. Crutchfield doesn't know what they are talking about sometimes. All is good!

I have the brown connector to USB adapter cable, but can’t figure out how to connect it to the factory USB Port. Can anyone give me some advice on this?
