Hey guys, has anyone experienced this and if so what did you do to fix it? My mechanic had never seen this happen.

Hey guys, just wanted to check back and see if anyone knows what this is called (I think actuator is correct but am not sure) and if any of you have replaced one or installed new rings/gaskets? Mine is leaking pretty badly and I need to get it fixed.

Did you already replace it once? It has a big remanufactured sticker. Sorry I'm not any help.

No problem. That's the rack. I'll upload a photo with the part in question high-lighted.

:rofl:You can see how much help I am. I see that now though. That thing looks like it's going to be fun to swap.

All I could find is this thread but it's for a 4runner.

Haha! Thanks for the thread. I'm a bit worried as all the actuators I see on Toyota are $1,200+.

The ADD actuator is sealed with RTV. I had to replace mine and I redid it twice trying to get it to seal and it still leaks like a sonofagun.

    This^^

The service manual has a procedure for sealing the unit when installing. Whoever installed it didn't seal it properly.

Thanks, man. I'm assuming it's the same for a 1st gen. I'll have to check again to confirm this but I believe the part I need to do is the one to the left of the one with the arrows in your manual.

No problem. It looks very similar (unless the diagram does not accurately represent the part ) and I'm guessing that the sealing instructions still apply.

So I don't think the actuators itself is bad. I'm wondering if I could just reseal it?

Sure. Seals in general go bad a lot more than the actual parts they are sealing do. Just ask any subaru owners about our headgaskets.
