Hahahah. I knew someone was going to post this. The current spindle is temporary. I'm in the middle of making a jig and working with a friend on it to make custom spindles to replace the cast iron BDS spindle.

    Forged, CNC'd spindle.

    EDIT: Sorry, not spindle, upright/knuckle.

Well, the simplest thing to do is build off the stock spindle.

But a much better option is to buy a hub and fabricate a boxed upper and steering knuckle. LSK and a couple others have done these for their LT kits.

Should have used a /facetious tag at the end of my post.

Yeah, I like LSK's stuff. I'm thinking of contacting them and see if they will make a stock length lower with bypass, limit strap and hydro bump provisions. Love that they have a custom knuckle included in their kits. Not sure how many people are PROPERLY welding gussets to their stock, cast spindle.

My TC spindle gussets have been holding up just fine.

Check out dirt king, they have stock lower arms that are much cheaper than the TC stock length arms.

I forgot about DK. I will have a look. I wish they would make inner fenders for us. I like their GM inners.

You probably had that welded properly with an accurate preheat and appropriate penetration. I'm sure some people are just burning that in completely oblivious to the material differences.

DMZ does all my metal work and Bruce steps in every now and then. Here are the spindles when they were done back in 2014:

I'm sure DMZ knows to do a preheat on cast before welding on it. Especially with the kind of load a knuckle on LT arms takes. That looks super clean and is holding up very well for its age. Finding a good fabricator is key in a build like that. My welding skills are garbage and I know my limits. A cage and anything suspension is beyond those limits.

Oh yeah DMZ definitely knows what they're doing, that why I haven't bothered to learn welding. I won't weld often enough to stay good at it.

FYI the spindles are forged steel

drop backet kits use cast steel spindle which is not very strong so they make them super thick and heavy

They're forged? Interesting. I thought they were cast this whole time. Then, no preheat necessary.

Correct no preheat... yeah Toyota stock spindles are actually insanely good for how thin they are on the LT application just the gussets being added make them more than sufficient for what we do..

I learned something new today. I'm surprised Toyota uses forged uprights. Figured that they would go with some cost cutting measures and just use cast.

Toyota doesn't cut cost on parts that affect reliability and durability. Thats why I buy their vehicles.

Yes I do! I don't need my daily to be reliable

But I did give Lexus a chance when I traded in my is350. I wanted an suv with 400hp and awd. If Lexus made something like that I would buy it

We're planning on moving back closer to the west coast soon. After the move, other half wants a BMW or Wrangler... I said "We lease that noise. I don't want to mess with that when it's out of warranty".
