When I purchased my 2012 RW in June 2018 it had a BAK Flip G2 Tri-Fold Tonneau cover on it. I sold that as I don't like that style cover. After much searching I settled on a BAK Flip Revolver X2 Tonneau cover and I really liked that it was sleek looking, low profile, pretty much waterproof and easy to operate. Until it met Wisconsin winter weather. At temperatures below freezing it will not roll up without a lot of effort and if rolled up and temperatures get cold it will not unroll and lay flat enought to engage the hold down latches. I roll and unroll my cover a lot as I haul metal sculptures, etc. If you just leave your bed covered it won't be a problem. I contacted the vendor that sold and installed the cover and now they say that there have been some issues and complaints. I contacted BAK Flip Industries and after several bouts of correspondence they refuse any type of refund other than another of their product of equal value.
These covers should not be sold in cold climate areas without warning the customer of potential problems. So I am stuck with a $900 faulty product that the manufacturer refuses to stand by.
So after all that anyone interested in buying this cover please contact me. I will save you hundreds of dollars and I have warned you of its issues.

I have the same issue with mine, I can understand why it wont roll when its cold but yeah could be a disclaimer somewhere. Mine also split at the rear most fold and BAK was awesome with there warranty service and sent me a complete new unit.

If they send you a new one part of the agreement is you have to destroy your old cover and email back photos for proof at least that's what they told me for my warranty claim.

Of course. His is pretty much garbage anyways so what would he do with that? They are sending a new 1 seems like they are standing up to their warranty to me.

I havent had that issue with my x2. I dont think I have tried to roll it up below zero but plenty of times between 10 and 30 degrees without a problem.

Its not useless just when its cold out, the new one will probably do the same. I haven't installed my new one yet but I'm gonna guess it wont roll when cold either.

Yes I do whenever I am home, most of the time if I need the cover rolled up it would be at home. Every now and then after driving to home depot or somewhere else. I could see how the garage could make a difference, my garage is about 5 degrees warmer than it is outside.

WOW, that sucks @tnbndr , I wonder if you could have them ship you a new one, then just sell it locally "NiB" for a few hundred bucks, and put the money towards something that functions better (in all the seasons).

I just bought the X4 and this is the second time I've read about cold weather rolling dysfunction. What a joke!! Looking at your pictures makes me regret this cover. I cannot believe they would let a product on the market like that, let alone charge $1000 for it. When my X4 dies, it looks like i'll be going back to cheap-o vinyl roll up :(

Ive also had a problem with the the felt strips that are stuck on the underside. They don't stay stuck in the hotter months. I ended up removing both after re-sticking them numerous times. The badge also comes unstuck. Everything else about the cover is acceptable.
Also , customer service at bakflip is nonexistent.

Sitting here looking at my used 2015 Tundra dblcab 2wd drive I bought two weeks ago, I've been contemplating on a cover for the truck (Blackjack) when we relocate permanently to Texas in October. From what I guess after reading the comments is that many of the drives who buy these products fail to understand that the 'weather' is the big unknown factor in their neck of the woods, and so they try to buy products that look cool, but are completely useless in sub-normal weather, or increased temperatures; where weather is known to play havoc with everything under the sun.

So instead of crying that they want a refund because 'item A' is not performing as they thought it should be, or telling everyone that they should not buy that particular product; why not look for a product that has a better life in very miserable weather? A Tonneau cover that has a vinyl outside skin, will not behave in in an approved manner that is usually found in temperate or not so miserable winter conditions. And to complain that the item should behave as the others is really a piss poor excuse for not "doing your homework" on products that were designed t work in temperate or mild or not so mild winter weather.

So my advice is to buy a product that will work in very cold weather or hot miserable weather conditions.....

These comments are my own, and observations.....

The vehicle is meant to drive in all weather conditions. It would only make sense an exterior accessory sold specifically for it would be too.

I re-read my post, can't find anywhere that I told anyone/everyone not to buy this product. Just giving them a fair warning so if they are doing their due diligence they can decide with as much information as possible.
I did my homework, their website clearly states that this product works in sub zero temperatures, when in fact it doesn't.
From your response I would say that you are either a shareholder in BAK Industries or work there.

I got that feeling as well. I like my bak revolver x2 but I wouldn't and haven't ever pushed it on anyone as hard as he was trying to

I've had a Bak X2 on now for well over a year now. I bought it because I was tired of the canvas style covers with velcro flapping in the wind. I was looking at toppers as well, and decided on the X2, as I do haul things on occasion that would not be possible with the topper. I bought mine at a truck accessory dealer. Had it installed. When I was looking, I asked the lady about winter use. She was upfront and said most roll ups, fold ups, etc. would have issues in our winters. She said to just make sure all snow, ice is off before rolling up/down. Also, I think any roll up will have issues at -10F. I have been happy with it so far.

I like the cover also but I need it to function all the time. I always clear all the snow and ice but the moisture freezes in the aluminum joints and then it will not roll up or unroll. Enjoy your cover.
