Been toying with the idea of powder coating the ring of my RW wheels, found these.

I've been searching for some pics to see what it would look like, I haven't really found any. I might just have to see about getting my OR wheels powder coated bronze

Did any of you guys that went gloss black get a clear coat on top? One of the shops I got a quote from recommended a clear coat on top of the powder coat to reduce scratches, but it's another $75 on top of the price for just the powder coating and I'm wondering how much of a benefit that will provide.

No clear coat but plenty of gloss.

Everyone still happy with their powdercoated rims? I found a shop that quoted me $350 total and another $75 to mount and balance my tires on them. They also offer a 5 year warranty (included) against peeling or yellowing.

Only kicker is this. I can either set my truck on blocks in my driveway and take them the wheels or leave my truck with them for a couple weeks. He said the whole process doesn't take that long but they just aren't exactly sure when they'd get me in. Not crazy about the idea of leaving my truck there for a couple weeks. Can't find any stock TRD wheels on the cheap for sale either.

    Your truck looks great!!
After seeing your powder coated wheels, I think I will likely go the same route. Which center caps did you end up using?

I used the factory ones and had them painted. The Toyota logo was left in chrome.

I've checked on powder-coating in Mobile, AL but all of the quotes were for $800+ for the set of four. That is much higher than some of the previous posters have stated. Anyone know of someone in Mobile or Pensacola that does a good job and is more reasonable in price?

Also, any more feedback on how aftermarket powder coat jobs hold up? I was told by the local powder coat companies themselves that it would not be as good as a factory powder coat job.

Or you can pay $8 at Lowes for a can of gloss black enamel and have them look exactly the same.

Ok... I bought a spare set of Off Road wheels with plans to have them blasted and powdercoated.732707F6-C891-4842-9758-D454399752E0.jpg
I got a quote over the phone from a shop I’ve used in the past, and they want $125 per wheel to blast and PC.

I paid $100 each for the spare wheels, and this would take the cost to $900 for the whole job. Dah-HAM!

@biebs96, what prep was done to the machined/non finished parts of the spokes?

I am now imagining just doing as you described.

The entire wheel and machined surface was sanded down and cleaned, then prepped, primed, painted and treated with heat to “advance” the curing process.

The entire thing was completed in my driveway.

My previous set. Powder coated matte black. I can't attest to durability as I sold them about 4 months later. But, loved the look.D20B8ADA-239F-4CFB-AEEB-F03124A11C54.jpg

I had a local company help me. $60/wheel including the lug nuts. I painted the center caps to match.

Your truck looks great! How are the rims holding up? I have the same ones and am going to take them for powder coat soon. What tires are in the pictures? Did you rattle can the center hubs?

    Thanks

I had the shop paint the centers and powder coat the rims. The tire is a 295/55-20 ridge grappler. The powder coat is holding up great. Make sure the shop sand blast your rims before painting. That way the coat sticks.
