I was getting a couple body plugs (I pulled them to fluid film inside the rockers) and saw this. I said to to the parts guys “I guess you have another frame swap to do”. He said “one of the last ones since the campaign is ending at the end of this month”

Just putting it out there to get you frame looked at if it is in ruff shape

I would be hesitant to do it. Knowing my luck with Toyota, some young tech would have a lot of extra parts after swapping out the frame.

Hope its not a dumb question but I'll ask it anyways. Is this for 3rd gen Tundras cause I just bought a 2018 last July? Or is this more for the 1st or 2nd Gen Tundras? I only ask cause I notice this was a 3rd Gen discussion under the title. Thanks in advance if anyone can answer this for me!

I was wondering the same thing. I had no idea this was still an issue like it is with my first gen. After 20 years Toyota still hasn't figured out to keep the frames from rotting? As much money as they lost on this issue I would think they would have learned from previous mistakes.

I have a second gen and my notice that I got in the mail said it ends in June 2019. So it apparently is for 2nd gens as well.

But I live in North Texas and my frame looks great so I am not worrying. The only rust on my truck is on the bolts holding in the tail lights and the tail gate cable.

By now the dealer will probably have a team of guys who have done a lot of frame swaps and do them quickly and properly. This has been going on for a long time and includes Tundras and Tacomas. It only affects trucks from the northern states where a lot of salt is used on the roads in winter. I do hope that something has been changed on the frames for newer trucks to prevent the problem, but if I had a rotten frame I'd rather get it changed than risk a failure.

I believe the campaign ran for 12 years from initial date of service since it covered 07 as the last year 2019 would make sense.

My 04 is on year 4 after the replacement and the frame shows no signs of rust so whatever the new process for frame coating is made a large difference.

I bought my Tundra from Nashville so zero rust. I used Fluid Film last fall and looking at underneath yesterday it looks great. I plan to keep the truck a while so I will plan every fall to FF underneath. I have the money saved for a new TRD Pro. But the wife said no. So I guess I’m stuck with my 2008 with 120k.
    Love yours. D

That’s actually an excellent question. I’m confused as well.

I know about the 1st gen Tacoma and Tundra frame issues. Interestingly enough, they were made at Dana Corp.’s Tennessee plant where they also made (maybe still make?) F150 frames. The rumor I heard is that there was an error or misunderstanding on the rust prevention applications/techniques specified by Toyota. But I digress.

So are these new frames for 2nd and 3rd gen Tundras? Or are these for 1st gen Tundras? If the latter, I’m not sure why this was posted in the 3rd gen folder. If the former, then what the heck is going on? Figured Toyota would’ve learned from the previous frame rust fiasco, but until we know which frames these are for I guess at least two of us remain confused with the original post. Perhaps the OP can shed more light on this.
