Zapp, not a bad idea. Do you know if vinyl wrap can stick to something like weatherstripping? Do you happen to know where I could find "color matched vinyl wrap" in such a small quantity? Thanks

That is another good idea! I wonder how long paint on weather stripping would last? But it could be worth a try. Thanks

I haven't found a good reason not to remove the weatherstrip, so I did it. Here are pictures with it removed.
I did put some buttons in the clip holes. I will now just drive it for a while to see if there is any rain leakage or additional wind noise (I'm hard of hearing so I doubt that I will hear any additional noise). As you can see from the picture, those buttons are visible between the doors when they are closed.....so, my plan is to get a thin strip of aluminum (say 1"x20"x1/16") and have it painted body cover and attach it over the holes with double-sided molding tape.....giving a smooth reveal. The worst that can happen is that I re-install the weatherstrip.....which right now is the last thing I want to do. That's the plan......we'll see how it goes. I'll post the results when the final results are in.

EDIT: The next pictures will be with "blackout" removed as well.

Here's an off the wall idea why the rubber is there instead of blackout tape. Maybe in the absence of the rubber, it whistle'. Let us know.

IMG_2790.jpg Well, I finally got my 2008 Limited TRD Tundra back from the detailer. Here she is completely de-badged, de-chromed, black vinyl removed, and polished up. I love the new look and with a ceramic coating, she IS SLICK! In both senses.

....and Rockgate....no whistle noises. I took her up to 80 and all is good!

EDIT: That's the original paint! Well, except the items that were de-chromed! So if any paint was going to show signs of not seeing daylight before now, none did! Not behind the badges, the TRD decal, nor the black out vinyl.

Here's the "final touch".......the holes that held the weather stripping between the doors have been covered up with 1"x 1/16" strip of aluminum painted and taped into place.

What’s the point of removing the weatherstrip? My truck came without the pillar tape and you couldn’t tell the weatherstrip was even there with the doors closed. Plenty of pics in my build thread in my signature of before and after I added the pillar tape. Looks kinda funny without the strip there when you have your doors open.

Edit: final pic looks better but still not sure the point?

    Mike,
I guess it's a matter of taste. I could have left the weather stripping on, but I liked the look without it. I'm sure you like the looks of your Tundra and I like the looks of mine.
But I think your comment will help others that are considering removing the black vinyl. Thanks

You can see the weatherstrip with doors closed? Never noticed it when I had my pillars off. Interesting. To each their own I guess, definitely looks better now that you covered up the holes etc

Yes you can......and that's the reason I removed it. But, it's a matter of taste. Here's what it looks like with the doors closed. It's pretty much a non-event, but I just liked it better. Leaving the weatherstripping on may give you a little less wind noise. I tested my Tundra without the weatherstripping before I chose to do what I did. I didn't see much difference......but then I need hearing aids! LOL

How hard will it be to put gloss black vinyl over the top of what's there already. Or should I remove the current vinyl and apply new pieces right to the painted surface. I have never done any kind of wrap. Precut pieces would be a good idea for any vinyl guys out there, or at least rough cut @DecalsByDesign

I’m retiring, I am 2 months out on wraps right now and just losing my mind. Vinyl can be bought at metrorestyling.com or fellers.com . I’ll tell you now that flat objects are simple to wrap. it might take you a few try’s, but that’s the beauty of paint vs vinyl. My top material is Avery Dennison.

    Not nearly enough room here!
0516190743[3742].jpg One more option, I replaced my blemished pillar tape with 'Carbon Fiber' look molding from E-Bay. Made by Di-Noc. $50 for my 2010 and it's removable with no mess.

I may try gloss black over what's there already. I haven't done any wrap before other than fog light laminex. I think I can get enough wrap for like $20 to try it. Maybe I'll order a light smoke too for my tail lights

People have a hard time with the tail lights due to the little fin. Keep them on the truck so you have leverage to stretch it. Good luck with it. Reading around in the forums most people give up on diy tail light tinting. Look forward to seeing your results!

B pillar gloss vinyl. Very simple mod and I like the look over the OEM satin finish
