Finally got around to dipping my wheels. I used the Luxury Metal series in Black Sapphire. I used a full can plus about 2 or 3 coats from another can per wheel. I really like the way it turned out. Trying to decide if I should paint the brake calipers...

How many coats per wheel? How long did they dry between coats.

I didnt really count the coats, I used a full can per wheel plus about 2 coats from another can. About 15 minutes or so in between coats.

That's how they should have come from the factory. Transforms the whole look of the truck. Nice.

I cant figure out why they dont offer all black wheels on more than the trd pro, i cant stand silver wheels.

With that said, what prep did you do? And in general how well does this hold up? I was thinking of powder coating my wheels, but its pricey, although i dont want to have peeling paint on my wheels that require constant touch up.

There are several ways to do this, including leaving the wheels on. But I took mine off( mainly cause I didnt want my lug nuts black) and cleaned with a de greaser (super clean) applied some tire shine to the tires, popped the center caps off and applied the plasti dip in several light coats. I used an entire can plus a few coats from another can per wheel. Its to early to say how well its going to hold up. I did wash my truck the other day and I use a pressure washer and it held up fine. I thought about powder coating also, but it was going to be $400-$500. I spent about $60 on plasti dip.

Looks great. I have a kit in the mail from dip your car. I'm going brass money gloss. They were running a 20% off sale so I got 4 cans of brass monkey, 3 cans of glossifier, spray tip, prep spray, and brake bags, maybe other stuff too, whatever is in the wheel kits. I'm pretty excited. I may dip my platinum badge to match too.

Looks really good. What’s the difference between using plastidip and spray paint meant for wheels? Is one more durable than the other?

Plasti dip is a sprayable rubber coating. Not sure which is more durable but plastidip is easier to touch up and also easier to remove if you apply correctly.

I had Plastidip on mine from April until a week ago, it got ripped up around the edges when new tires were put on, but was otherwise perfect. It peeled off in just about a single pull on all of them. Pressure washer knocked the rest off easily. When I did it, I did about 7 coats on each.

Looks good, I plastidipped a wheels on a few different vehicles, I will say though that recently when trading in my last car I wanted to take the dip off before trading and it was a pain to get off I had to use acetone, is was after being on for 6 years. It came off easy on a wheel that I had replaced that was on there for less than a year. So I will say I have rethought putting dip on anything long term that's going to be out in the elements that I may want to remove at some point.
