?

If you didn't use the PCS more than 5%-10% of the time, would you still cut the hole in the mesh?

  1. Yes

Wanting to replace the bumper, I looked all over the internet and this forum. After finding @Rider0120 's post on the ranch hand installation https://www.tundras.com/threads/2018-tundra-with-a-ranch-hand.32744/#post-1143559, I knew I was on the right path. How do we get past the forward looking and parking sensor issue?

His detailed installation shows that he removed part of his grill protector in order for the front sensor to see out. After reading his success, I ordered an Iron Cross front bumper with the brush guard. The bumper was for the looks, the brush guard is for the deer. However, I would run across the same issue Rider had because of the front PCS sensor (pre-collision system). I do not have parking sensors.

I mounted the bumper at home with the help of one other person. We used a floor jack to raise it up and bolt it in. Pictures are below. You'll notice that I haven't cut out the mesh grill for the PCS. I wanted to try it as it is and see how bad the sensor is effected. Turns out, IT DOES AFFECT THE SENSOR. But, I have noticed that from time to time it will still read through the mesh and slow down the Tundra when another vehicle merges in front of me. That being said, the overall answer is that the PCS sensor needs a clear line of sight. But since I rarely use the PCS, I'm not going to cut anything just yet. Will update a few thousand down the road.

Only buyers regret is that the "holes" around the headlights are rather big. A deer could definitely get their head in there and cause damage. Might consider welding a few bars in there for extra protection.

Note: I do have LDA (Lane Detection Assistance) and this has not impacted it one bit.

But having the truck makes up for it.

I tell all the ladies I have a big black one.

I haven't really messed with the emblem on my 2019 Platinum... but I wonder if you could extend it to the grille mesh on the bumper?

I had thought of that but seems like it would look a bit off, especially with a dangling wire hanging back to an empty spot on the grille.

Maybe buy another grille emblem and route wires needed through bumper tubing? I would think Toyota could provide an emblem only... but don't know for sure. I live about 2 miles from a RanchHand assembly place. If you need help, I can reach out to them.

Oh crap... I just noticed the bumper is an Iron Cross... not Ranch Hand. Sorry!

I would assume you will kill your warranty when it comes to the TSS system. I would not risk voiding the warranty as there have already been 2 or 3 recalls for the system already.

I'm not a good influence... I have killed the warranty on just about every truck I have owned. The last GM 6.2L Eco Tech being the only warranty survivor due to the hoopdie tranny and my want to get rid of it before said tranny cratered!

Having the constant sensor warnings would aggravate the hell out of me.

Right. From what I've read, as long as you bring the truck back to factory condition (removing the new bumper and/or reinstalling old bumper) and they will cover the warranty. I'm out of Toyota's 36k warranty but have plenty of miles left on the dealership warranty.

I agree, however, I don't have any sensor warnings!!! :bananadance: LDA works perfectly, PCS works from time to time - good with me!
