Tire shine flung up and caused yellow stains in super white. Alternatives?

A lot of good suggestions here. This is a "paint correction". In order of aggressiveness, I would try (1) clay bar, (2) magic eraser, (3) cleaner-polish, first manually, then by random orbital polisher, (4) Finesse It II or other compound (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002ZQ016/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1), first manually then by polisher.

I believe these "stains" are going to disappear somewhere along this path.

I just noticed I have the same stains as well. Only had the new super white truck a little over the month and been through the car was a few times. The stains are in the bottom part behind the wheel where the clear coat is applied rougher...

That lower area has a stone guard applied....that's the rough area that you're noticing. The greasy, slimy dressings that these places use are brutal....they completely ruined a set of moldings on a friend's Ford Expedition. I'm curious to see how much material this stuff has penetrated.

Just be careful with Magic Eraser -- it's abrasive.

I use it mainly for the interior plastic, and sometimes for bugs on my PPF. I agree. I would use only the edge of it (lightly) on the spot with APC or degreaser. You definitely don't want to wipe the whole panel or anything.

You said you had put tires on, how long did you have them on the truck, before going to the car wash? Stains like that That I've dealt with were from dirty/contaminated tires, like a silicone mold release. You have to use a good tire/rubber cleaner before any tire shine. But I always get at few hundred miles on a set of tires before doing anything with them, you gotta build up some heat in them to help get what ever they use during the manufacturing process. A light compound and some buffing will take care of it.

Why would you even consider going back? I would be beside myself if a carwash chemical did that to my ride. BLACKLISTED!

Hmmm that’s interesting. That could explain why I never noticed a stain before. I go to that car wash every week or 2. So at the most the tires were only on for 2 weeks before the first time they got shined up. I just noticed them after this wash though and now it’s been about a month with the new tires on

I made a trip from Vegas to Cali 2 days after I bought the tires though so I’m gonna guess I had roughly 500-600 miles on them by the time they got washed

I’ve been going there for a good 10+ years. They hand wash and do a good job. I’ve owned white vehicles since 2007 with no issues like this. I’m the one that picks the package that includes the tire shine. I’m curious what the product they are using is but I’m not really mad at them. More mad at myself. It’s something about this truck + that product that causes the issue. The last 2 white vehicles had no issues. When I do go back I will obviously not allow them to put the shine on again.

Damn, you seem pretty reasonable. With your history and your level head, you may be able to talk to the owner in a non confrontational way and let them know whats up. Maybe they switched it and you could save them from more issues.(and complaints)

I’m leaning towards the idea that came in post #40 of this thread. Don’t think it was specifically the product they used but a combo of new tires plus that type of product.
Came across this post in tacomaworld about the same issue and a bunch of people chimed in saying they had this issue. Found another person in there saying pretty much the same thing as post 40 here said. The op also used armor all tire shine which is definitely a different product but probably a similar chemical in it.

I hope you get it squared away. In the future look into optimum tire coating. I put some on almost 2 weeks ago and have driven in several rain storms and wet dirty roads and they still look prefect, even still have that wet look to them. Good stuff.

White is literally the only color slower than MGM......

The official order from fastest to slowest, as confirmed by UL is:

    Radiant Red
    Black
    The other ones
    MGM
    White

Real update : sorry been busy so late update. Went to the car washed and asked what product it was. The tire shine was 3D Universal protectant. I’ve tried clay bar and sealer wax so far with little to no change. The stains have faded a bit in the past month or so though. I think the best product to fix the issue is leaving truck out in the sun 24/7

Rubbing compound then finishing polish. Don't use products that are not designed for automotive paint like stain removers, that's crazy.

I dont suggest using an orbital polisher unless you have experience. You can get through the paint faster than you may think. If you do take it slow.

Clothing stain removers are not (generally) an aggressive bleaching product. Most are chemically formulated to reactivate the stain product - effectively turning that spaghetti sauce back into it's sauce chemistry so your wash water can easily remove/wash it away. Using something like that on a stain on your paint to allow you to easily lift the stain off your paint/clear/wax surface - followed by a proper washing really doesn't qualify as crazy. More like understanding chemistry & using it to your advantage. Certainly far less abrasive than rubbing compound which is removing your wax, then clear, then paint if you keep rubbing. (and automotive paint is FAR more durable than any dyed cloth. Leave a shirt on the clothes line for a summer & see how degraded/faded it gets.)

From all my research this is a problem specifically on Toyota’s due to the single stage paint/clear they use. The “stain” isn’t on the surface and everyone that’s tried rubbing compound and polishing have had no luck. 1 person had this happen on a brand new truck and the detail guys at Toyota put the tire shine on the truck. Dude drive home got some shine flung up on the truck wiped it off and had the stains. Toyota polished with no luck then even sanded until they got down to the metal to try to get it out. Toyota payed for a new paint job.

The paint has actually changed colors from a chemical reaction or something. doesn’t appear to be “fixable” but as 15whtrd said “sun bleach” is working. They were noticeable before If you knew where to look. Now from sitting in the sun a month they were even hard for me to find. Assuming another month or 2 they’ll be gone.

I’ve went the no tire shine route for now so this don’t happen again. Wet looking tires aren’t worth it

When I put tire shine products on my tires I spray it on a foam applicator then rub that on the tire. I never wanted that crap on my rims or paint from sloppily spraying on the tire. I thought it might mess something up. I had some armor all mess up the clear plastic on an instrument panel one time and learned a valuable lesson about getting the wrong product on the wrong surface by accident.
