    Howdy,

Got local Toyota to perform ECU flash as per TSB 0036-19 and it solved the problem on my 2019 Tundra. Finally towed today with no problems confirming it works in my case.

I gather some dealers couldn't figure it out but it does exist and it did work in my case.

See attached and show service department if they can't figure it out.

    Good luck!

    Greg

Hi Greg, my 2018 Tundra is doing the same thing . Can you give me the name and location of your dealer so I can reference them when I take my truck in. For some reason i could not print your screen page. Thanks.

    Hi,

Desert Toyota in Tucson performed the TSB for me

I couldn't make it to the dealer who told me (Earnhardt in Mesa AZ) and first one I called argued that one does not exist! Refused to even consider it and insisted on leaving Tundra there all day so they can do numerous system checks!

Called Desert Toyota who was less argumentative and in 5 minutes found the TSB, made an appt and in 2 hours was done (they did the the other recall radar deal too). Can take as little as 15 minutes but it relies on Toyota server and connection speed etc.

All they need is the 0036-19 and that 19 may mean 2019 specific. Perhaps you can talk them into doing it on a 2018....

Looks like it still doesn't address the non communication with electric over hydraulic issues my truck has. My truck still doesn't acknowledge my airstream trailer plugged in. But works with regular electric brakes....hopefully this will help out your other issues. Super bummed

My Airstream came with a crummy Bargman electric plug. Mine hardly seats at all but is working. I bought a highly recommended Pollak plug for $10 or less on Amazon and it is a super tight positive fit.

I'm gonna replace mine when I have some spare time. May be worth a shot. Only trick is wiring diagram... I think I found one somewhere. Message me if you want to try that and I'll find it.

I’m assuming you’ve changed the setting to “electric-over-hydraulic” and still having the issue then? If not, here’s all about setup.

The system doesn't even acknowledge the trailer connected even though all the lights work. If it doesn't see the trailer you cannot change the settings. I went through this with Toyota engineer's supplying them resistance values between the harness and and the control module in the airstream 7 months ago What gets me is no one can tell me what value the module need to see to acknowledge the trailer is connected. It's a resistance feed back from the trailer brakes that it needs to see. Looks like I either have to put in a new controller system cut and splice into my new truck or different brand truck. Never had any towing or trailer issues with my dodge.

Interesting that you can’t select a brake system type without it recognizing the trailer.

The integrated brake controller on the Tundra has had a lot of complaints on the forum but I wouldn’t give up on your Tundra over it.

What about adding a resistor wired in parallel with the brake pump unit on the trailer. Something like:

    5W and 21W versions available.

That's the resistance values I have been asking for from Toyota but no one seems to know.

    You might find this interesting.

    https://www.etrailer.com/faq-testing-trailer-brake-magnets-for-proper-function.aspx

I know it’s talking about electric brakes, but based on the individual magnet resistance specs at the bottom, 1.5 to 1.9 ohms total for a single axle trailer with 10/12” brakes, or 0.75 to 0.95 ohms total for a tandem axle. I know it’s comparing electric brakes to electric over hydraulic, but somewhere in that resistance range should get recognized.

What electric over hydraulic brake unit does your trailer have? And what is the resistance between the brake pin and ground?

2018 1794 edition. Had same issue. Constantly beeping while driving down the road while towing any 7-pin trailer. It was the most annoying thing ever. Found this thread and it was a simple software update. Thank you so much for posting!

My 2018 doing this. The lights are working fine. Do the trailer brakes work? I have the trailer hooked up for the first time. Is it not safe to tow until the issue is resolved?

I just picked up a new trailer, and I'm having this problem now. I called the dealership and their little computer said my VIN is not affected, but I know it is because the TSB says all VINs BEFORE those listed. The 10th digit in the listed VIN is the model year with K being 2019. Mine is a J for 2018, therefore it is in fact BEFORE the listed VIN. Waiting on a service advisor to call me back about it since the receptionist would not listen to me.

Just bought a 2019 last week and hooked up my trailer for a trip this weekend. I got the message so scheduled a service call with local dealership and they did the software update. Problem solved. Towed it up the mountain yesterday and had zero issues.

Great info here thanks! I will schedule an appointment at the dealership to see if they can perform the TSB. Out of 36 month warranty but it's fine as long as it fixes the issue!

Can confirm I had the same issue recently and the SB appears to have solved it. Thanks to this forum for pointing me in the right direction. Helped me avoid a very long and very slow drive home from the middle of nowhere.

I cant take credit for this as I found it in another thread and I also cannot confirm if it works because I haven't towed anything with brakes so not sure if I even have an issue. The original uploader got it from TIS though.

THANK you for this post - even years later. The first time I towed my brand new travel trailer with my new-to-me 2018 Tundra, I had the same disconnect/re-connect issue the entire drive home (terrifying, especially considering this was my first time towing ANYTHING that big). I had to brow-beat the service advisor at my Toyota dealer into installing the TSB, he ASSURED me that the problem was ALWAYS the trailer, NEVER the truck, but sure enough - one TSB update later, I towed my trailer 200 miles this weekend without a single issue.

I also own an older Landcruiser, and it's good to see that the Tundra folks are as helpful as the Landcruiser people!

    Working on it....,.
Calling the dealer tomorrow. I just took my new trailer on it's maiden voyage and had to listen to this beeping the whole trip. Never did this with my old trailer. But, has done it with a friend's horse trailer.
