I am looking for your opinion on what to do.
I will try to make this as short and concise as possible.

    Problem:
I bought a 2018 MGM SR5 4x4 Tundra about 17 months ago, paid around $40,000. I put on aftermarket wheels and tires, I had an upholstery shop install leather seats with heaters, added the spray in bed liner, console vault, SPOD, Baja Designs Fog lights, several other lights to in include A pillar and rock lights in the wheel wells, the grab handle and console vault as well.
and a TRD Exhaust. bottom line is I've done a few things to the Truck and have plans to do more upgrades that are more permanent, Love the truck, HOWEVER The PCS has me a little sketched out... I took it into the dealership and they said they couldn't complete the recall because my tires were not stock. I don't know what they do about the lifted trucks they sell new from the Dealership, but that is another story...
I came from a 2011 Tacoma that I had a small lift on, which apparently made the VSC system freak out and apply the brakes in corners once in awhile. it didn't happen very often, but when it did it was scary. it never did it in the rain or snow thank God, but I could never trust the truck.
so. knowing the issues that seem to be popping up with the PCS and TSS on the Tundra I am a little worried that the braking issue could plague this truck.

    SOLUTION:
I have been thinking of trading in my truck or selling it and getting a low mileage 2016 or17 tundra.
I found a 2017 Quicksand SR5 Tundra it only has 87 miles on it and would be brand new.
I could buy that one transfer all the Mods from my current Tundra to the 17. it would be some work but everything is transferable except the TRD exhaust, which I could sell since I still have the stock parts. the leather seats would transfer over as well.

Please Give your thoughts, am I over reacting? tell me what you think.

the only other concern is the smaller fuel tank in the 2017, I like having a larger one.
I plan on keeping the Tundra for a long long time.
But I need to be able to drive it with confidence, knowing it will not do something stupid on me.

    Thank you for your time,
    liferider

I kind of feel bad giving you such a short response, but I’d keep the 2018 and find a different dealer. I’ve got a lift and 35’s and my dealer gives me zero crap about my lift or tires. Their salespeople suck, but the service and accessory department has been awesome. If I was trying to warranty out ball joints and tie rods, it might be a different story though.

The larger fuel tank started in 2016, must have the 5.7 engine and the sr5 upgrade package.

Like Jeremy said, find a different dealer.

I appreciate all of the thoughts on this matter. I will call around to some other dealers tomorrow. It definitely would be a bit of a pain to swap but if I do it, I’d rather do it now

I guess the biggest issue is, even if they re-calibrate it under stock conditions, it will get thrown off again once the bigger tires and lift are back on it. If they re-calibrate it in it’s current state and there is no more issues then cool...

Do you currently have PCS issues? If not, they may simply seal the unit if you have the "J' version and not recaliberate. I would definitely call around to find different dealers. I know that Rodland Toyota up in Everett is following the recommendations and inspecting the trucks for mods that affect lift before proceeding/denying with the recall.

Yes I have had issues with the PCS, once in awhile I will get the BRAKE!! Warning light along with the audible alert... it hasn’t tried to Brake for me (yet) but I don’t like the fact that it’s a real possibility.

I would disable it if I dumped all that money in it.

This is the first truck I ever had with it and I wouldn't mind losing it.

THIS^^^^^^ makes no sense! You're right there are plenty of tricked out trucks at any dealership! I can't imagine a safety issue being neglected because of non stock tires! How many are running non stock tires and wheels and having service refused!

Sounds like WAY too much work and expense to swap over.

So then you make the swap and have the same issue with the '17!

    Find another dealer!

    Keep it! 100%!

I agree it would be a pain in the ass and an increase in expense, but the peace of mind may be worth it.
To my knowledge the 17 does not have the Safety sense shit on it.

Thank you for the input so far...

You do know that you can disable the PCS system? Only gotcha is that you have to do this each time you start the truck. It automatically enables on each start.

Have you made a pros and cons list for each truck? If the biggest con on the 17 is that you'll have to swap all your stuff over, then IMO that's the best decision since that's a one time action. If you're afraid of the TSS and don't wanna turn the nannies off every single time you get in the truck, then don't keep that truck. It's been 17 months and you still aren't confident driving your truck? Get a different one, go with your gut.

Keep the 18. There will be a better fix in the future if the current solution is not working with Toyota. There will be ways to disable it in the future as well. OVtune is making a tune for the tundra and I'm sure he could code the tune with a permanent on or off if he gets enough requests.

This has been SOP for me for the past year every time I start my 2018. I go through the switch-off procedure as oil pressure is building right after start-up. It is so automatic, I don't even think about it. I then switch on TOW/HAUL, put it in S-Shift and take off.

PCS is not needed if you are a reasonably competent and attentive driver (which everyone should be). Personally I would recommend keeping the 2018, I love mine.

PCS is a minor annoyance. I can't imagine dumping my 2018 for a 2017 because of a dummy light coming on occasionally.

My PCS light still came on even though I disabled it after start up over the winter.

Hopefully the recall fixed that issue. :fingerscrossed:

Had my pcs "fix" done today. It seems like a cheap temporary fix to me. The foam they put on top of the sensor will eventually come off. I hope the software update makes some kind of difference.

Thank you all for the opinions,
I’m just going to keep my 18 and have the dealer “fix” the problem and turn off my PCS.

Hold on to it. I'm sure someone will figure out a foolproof fix/mod/work around soon. Way too big of an aftermarket economy to be screwed on all trucks from here on out.
