Nice GTI. I love these cars too. My buddy in highschool took me in his doin like 130 down the freeway. Been in love ever since. Wife has had a couple. She loves them and refuses to drive an automatic. Both have been reliable for the most part. This one had an intake manifold gasket and an injector at less than 20k miles under warranty. Besides that, great. Has almost 100k now. Still rips. She's talking me into a new Golf R. Having a hard time saying no....

My wife would be over the moon if I traded her nemesis in for one of these cars haha.

Oh you're by the airport? My buddy's shop is around the corner from there, behind Capone's Pizza. Easy Run Test Stands, they build... engine test stands.
    :D

I have a friend who lives there off Central with a good view of the air strip. I miss drinking beer there and watching the planes take off.

I’m close by. I’m right down the street but know exactly the places you are talking about. Every air show I get the planes over my house shacking everything lol

I have been eyeing these as a daily. I really want a TDi though for all the low end torque. No need for 100+ mph runs any more.

Yup! And they corner really good. Manuals probably don't sell as much and the automatics are now faster with automatic transmission technology. I don't care about 1/4 mile times, it's way more fun to drive around a manual trans.

Twin turbo AWD Golf R is just bad ass.

Those DSG transmissions have come a long way. I thought they were cheeseball until I rode in one, I was really surprised. I still prefer a manual but I respect the DSG.

I have a load of parts coming in either tomorrow or Monday, just waiting to see my wifes eyes roll. :D I better take her to dinner or something tomorrow.

Had to drive my Tundra to work today due to GTI being on (rear) brake wear indicators for awhile now... At least that's the excuse I made to drive my truck into work.

Also VWs don't like Mazda Miata bumpers... At least mine doesn't according to the one I hit in '09.

Yes sir! I'm raising it up an inch while I'm at it, that will correct the suspension angles a bit and should help it handle better too. I think the suspension should be good as gold, I'll consider a rear swaybar later but I doubt I need it. I'm really excited about this.

Found some pics from the week I bought it. Hard to tell but it was 1" lower in the back and just over 2" lower in front. It had bigger tires in back for some odd reason too, like a hot rod.

Paint looked better then, I need to wax it.

Writing down the torque specs I'll need for tomorrows tear down. This is the kind of crazy shit you need to learn to keep a VW alive.

I think its important to admit that sometimes you go into a job and reach a point where you back out. I did that today.

Apartment life means the first part of any job I do is hauling a lot of tools, jack and stands downstairs and to the parking lot. After all that I lifted my VW up, put it on stands and started disassembly. Got the wheels and parking brake cables off. Took a look at the brake lines I will need to disconnect and realized theres no room to get to them from my angle. Went to loosen the pivot bolts on the rear beam and quickly found they are 18mm. I have a short 18mm but it won't work, not deep enough. A deep 18mm wont fit in the tight space. I need an 18mm crows foot, or maybe a long box end, but don't have one. Even if I did, I have very little leverage under the car and no room to swing a breaker.

Aside from that, my wife came out to keep me company, then swiftly got into an arguement with the tenant at a condo we own. That got me completely out of the mindset I need to work on a car. Tired, frustrated, and now mentally defeated, I put my car back together for now and will wait until I can call out sick and go borrow my buddy's lift.

Sometimes that happens. It can wait.

Decided I will take 1 or 2 days off work this week and drive out to my buddy's shop to borrow his lift. I got the parts gathered in a box and gonna put the tools together tomorrow. While gathering parts I found some spark plugs and decided to throw them in since my wife took over the TV to watch some woman shows.

New copper plugs in. Interesting thing, copper plugs can provide a stronger and more consistent spark than iridium, they just don't last as long. The good news is they only cost $10 for a set and although most VW guys recommend to swap after 5k miles I go 10k. Topped off the oil and cleared the crap out of the hatch.

Side note good news, I am entering escrow on a house next week. I'm scared, I wanted to puke when they accepted my offer, I dont like debt and 30 years worth is terrifying. I'll be really happy once we move in though and I have a garage again for the first time in ten years.

Those sonzabitchez were hard to get out but we hit them with an air hammer and chisel bits. First one got mangled to hell but we learned technique and it showed on the second.
