I’d rather not list. My wife might see it.
That’s the Toyota factory tip. It was chrome so it was sanded and painted.

I stand corrected. I got to listen through good headphones at work, and the TRD Replacement does sound really deep and smoother - less choppy than the OEM.

Any chance of rev or driving video - I know I'm asking a lot. I currently have the OEM TRD, and I'm on the fence about trying your exact system. Not a lot of video or feedback out there though, and it's pretty expensive not to be sure.

    Thanks,
    Ed

I just did this as well, listened through my truck speakers. I’ve noticed that you can’t hear jack when you’re just trying to play through the speakers on your phone.

But I agree, I think the TRD has a throatier sound, I like it a lot.

All I have is an iPhone SE for video equipment so I can't capture the best stuff easily. I didn't do a rev video because my driveway is right next to my neighbors and I don't want to be "That Guy".

I think it depends on what you are going for with the exhaust. My primary objective was to reduce drone from 1500-2000 on the freeway. I am either crazy, or super sensitive, but It hink the stock TRD system has way more freeway drone than people claim. But I have never been able to ride in another Tundra with the exhaust to verify if mine is a fluke.

I jumped on getting the TRD replacement because of the Group Buy price. I was already looking in to putting resonators on my stock TRD Dual system. I figured that I could avoid buying the resonators, hacking my pipes, and I could sell my original TRD exhaust to make some money back.

With the 24x5 mild system, you are not getting a significantly louder and different sounding system than OEM TRD, in my opinion. Very subtle differences. You definitely get some more torque as I mentioned. If you are looking for a meaner exhaust, I know a few people on the GB bought the 16x5 maybe they can post a video.

$1100+ bucks to go from TRD to TRD Replacement is a bit steep considering that isn't a massive difference in the sound.

Totally understand not wanting to be "that guy."

I did a lot of "new" highway driving this weekend - in varying speeds, inclines and traffic - and that fluttering/helicopter sound that happens in 6th gear between 50 and 65 mph got a little annoying. Plus, I think I now understand the torque loss that people talk about, because in that range, the truck has nothing unless you give it the gas or drive in S mode and move between 5th and 6th gear (which I guess isn't the worse thing to have to do).

Those are the issues I'm looking to correct. I do like the sound of the OEM TRD and don't want to go much louder or change tone too much.

I've also read that some have had success adding an H pipe (for about $100), but I'm hesitant to cut up the factory system, because (like you said) I could probably sell it to recoup some $$$.

$1100 is steep to correct a situation that is a relatively small portion of my driving, which can be fixed by moving a shift lever up and down.

Thanks for your feedback. It was helpful.

The helicopter noise drove me insane, so I had a local shop weld an H-pipe in and it eliminated it. It was $100 bucks and one hour a local shop.

After that, I was still not happy about the drone on the freeway. Personally, would consider shifting in 5th gear in S Mode to be a non-starter long term. Its not "worth it" to me, I have a decently long commute. In hindsight adding the resonators along with the H-pipe might have been the way to go (Keith Recommended that actually) but I couldn't resist the opportunity to get in on the group buy and do a "clean" install without all the stuff.

I can't say I really notice a drone on the highway (or at least nothing that bothers me), but I don't like the helicopter sound. Glad to hear the H pipe eliminates that.

Do you remember H pipe diameter and placement or did you just let the exhaust shop figure all that out?
Did the H pipe help at all with the loss of low end torque?
Did the H pipe change the tone or volume of the exhaust when accelerating?

Sorry for all the questions, but appreciate the help.

See Pics. I didn't specify a diameter to the exhaust shop, but I did get under the lift and explain where I wanted it. Be careful, with the unequal length portion they were proposing to weld the H from the long tube on the muffler section to cat mid-pipe. You wouldn't want that because then you couldn't unbolt the exhaust!

It might have helped a touch with the low end, but I definitely got some low end back even more with the Dirty Deeds. Change under acceleration was minimal.

One more question, if you don’t mind...

Were the resonators that Keith recommended for the OEM TRD designed to go right after the mufflers, like the TRD replacement, or in the tailpipes - if you know/remember.

    Thanks.

I put on the resonator last sunday and now its sounds like stock with no drone when cruising under 2k. punching the skinny pedal the beast wakes up. wife now approves the exhaust with the resonator installed. if anyone is on the fence on installing the resonator, just do it.

Tried to install my 6 SS system today but 2 of the exhaust bolts are stuck and the heads are rounding off. I sprayed the bolts 3 or 4 times over the past 2 weeks waiting for the system and right before I started. Everything else came loose, any suggestions?

Take a blow torch to the nut until cherry red, then vice grip the bolt head and tap with a hammer. Had to do this with mine. Heat is key

Also had to go to Toyota dealer and buy new bolts. Couldn’t find ones at the hardware store - seemed a funny thread. $6

I'll try the torch and vice grips tomorrow, I heated the bolts but not that hot. I'm going to go ahead and replace all 4 bolts also. Thanks for the suggestions!

Just to make sure we're on the same page, it's that welded on nut that needs the heat, not the bolt. It's the nut that needs to expand. Big vice grips.

Some forum says the M10 - 1.25 x 35 bolts will work, but when I bought them from O O O'Reilly'sssss Autoparts they were a different thread count. Thats when I went to Totoya dealer. Also figured I'd pick up that clamp that goes on the aft end, but it was over $50!

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Installed my 8 in yesterday love it!! It had a missing piece think it was a gasket? Looked like it was ripped off during shipping it was on front of box. I used all the old gaskets, or is that a big deal?

Yeah there should be one gasket it comes with, for the tailpipe. I'm not sure why they put the gasket on the outside of the box instead of inside. The bag it was in was ripped on mine, I'm surprised it didn't come out. I thought it was damaged at first because it didn't look round, but searching the part number it looks like that in images too.

So installed the resonator but didn’t get it to seal 100% from the looks of it. For those that has installed theirs did you button it up 100%? I can, I just feel like Iv tightened the hell out of it and don’t know how much further I should take it. Thanks!

Received and installed the 10" today, sounded pretty awesome the short run I made after install. Still need to paint tailpipe and install resonator. Fudged my OEM gasket bad so hopefully never have to reuse it! Thanks for the great deal @TuFerLife @dirtydeeds and the videos really made the install pretty easy!

I think you’re good, bro. As Keith explained in the gasket, Toyota says they’re only a one-time use... but Toyota says a lot of things. Haha. I’m glad my brother in law’s didn’t get lost, he had a 2012, and his literally came apart when we took his tailpipe off... so it was necessary.

You should be good to go! Now go romp and that thing and enjoy the roar!
