Thanks Blue. I’m almost done with this part of the installation though I will admit I wanted to do the sound matting and that part is a little time consuming. Lots of great information on here on that and the speaker install.

I haven’t seen much though on the next phase: Amp and subwoofer install.

I have a non JBL system. Are there any resources on these? I feel like I can do it myself with good guidance though I haven’t seen much so far.

If someone could just answer this I would be greatful. I know it is somewhere in the 30 pages of the thread but I can’t find it again.

To splice each tweeter into the provided door harnesses.

    Tweeter is black and red
    Harness is black and white.

So I splice black with black and red with white?
    Just making sure.
    Thanks

Got the front doors matted and installed. Went well. Speakers do make a huge difference. Back doors tomorrow then I will mat the back wall. Couldn’t have done it without you all. For those of you reluctant to start, this thread and time. That’s all you need. Talent is a wasted attribute though I wish I had some. :)

Subwoofer and amp coming soon. Seriously, is there any info, videos, threads to help me through that part? I can’t find anything.

Nice work buddy. Sounds like you're doing a great job slowly but surely but that's just fine. I did my stereo build over several weeks.
The back speakers arent too bad to install. Do you have a JBL? I forgot. You have stock rear tweeters? Theres a trick there that I can't take credit for but it helps speed things alone.
As far as the amp install I can try to help. What's the info on the amp? You get a sound processor? Is it just running the sub?
I can PM you my number so we can talk when you're ready, I fought my way thru my install with some help and many emails to James, I'd be happy to pay it forward as best i can

Thanks fellows. I have a non JBL system. I saw Tyler’s video on the trick to jump the rear tweeters but I was wondering if that applies to me seeing I tied the tweeters into the supplied harnesses just like I did on the front speakers.

I don’t have a sound processor. Do I need one or will it work without for the non JBL system?

Thanks for the offer for the phone consult. I may just take you up on that. The sub and amp won’t probably be here for a week or two.

If the rear tweeters have that box on them I'd use them as a jumper, I wired my tweeter direct to the harness included byJames, and NEITHER speaker worked til I connected the "jumper"

What amp are you getting? 1,2,4,5 channels?
How about sub? The JBL one from James?
You sticking with the Stock head unit?
Planning to use high level inputs on the amp? I assume so if stock head unit because they dont have RCA outputs.
I have never done a sub on an amp wired with speaker level inputs. but I'm sure we can figure it out. I assume you dont have a stock sub being non JBL, so not sure where to grab input from to be honest.

Hmm. I may have the same problem then with the rear speakers. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow.

5 channel infinity kappa 5 from James
    12 in sub
    Box
    Rack
    Wiring
He has a new group buy going on. It’s everything in the group buy minus the speakers.

I’m sticking with the stock head unit for now. Mainly because I installed the front camera and bought the harness from @TundraTex that I hooked into the HU and I don’t know if it’s compatible with another HU. I really like my front camera.

There does appear to be some kind of an amp under the passenger seat but I know with the new amp I’ll have to run a wire from the battery. As far as the other items speaker level inputs etc, that’s over my head. Hope we can figure it out. Thanks again. You guys are great.

I did not need to jump the rear tweeter wires on my non JBL. My tweeter did not have anything that would separate. I hack mine up trying get the connector but it was one piece. So just unplug connector and you are good.

Thanks. I read this afterwards of course so when I did it on the first one I put the jumper back on and it worked so I left it on. On the other door, I hooked up the speaker first without the jumper and it worked so I didn’t put it on the second one.

The tweeters don’t really fit very well in the door panels and I know they are fragile so I wanted to be careful with them. I gave up on the rings that came with them as I couldn’t get them to work and ended up zip tying one of them to keep it in the panel. If the other one falls out I will deal but I’m guessing the door panel will help hold it in place.

Has anyone run the amp wire from the battery through the passenger side instead of the driver side? I already have an opening there from wiring the front camera so it would be much easier getting through the firewall. Only issue is the battery is on the drivers side which means I would have to run the wire across the engine bay which is not ideal. The amp is mounted under the passenger seat so you have to run it across at some point. Just don’t know if running it under the hood is a good idea.

You could probably run it across the firewall. Some wire loom would be a good idea. I ran it drivers side but then under the foot pedals and under the center console to the passenger side underseat, was easier than along the door channel

Thanks Pudge. Just thinking ahead of course seeing I don’t have the equipment yet. I have some wire loom though so I will definitely use that in the engine bay.

The install instructions that James provided showed to run the cable through the passenger side firewall grommet and along the firewall to where the battery is located.

Just make sure if you do run the power line down the passenger side you'll want to run your rca's under the seat and center console AWAY from the power cord. They can cause interfence with each other. If you run the power through the driver side you can run the rcas up the passenger side to the HU. Just make sure theyre as far away from each other as possible. No right way here. Either are acceptable

ok. Speaker install did go well but I did discover one issue. The front tweeters have low output. Much lower than the back tweeters. I wired them the exact same way, tied them into the supplied harnesses. Any ideas? Not the end of the world since there are plenty of speakers up front. Thanks

Thanks. Good point. So seeing at this point I’m very uneducated I will ask this.

If I have a stock non JBL stereo with a small amp under the passenger side seat, is the wiring for all the speaker inputs already in place and built into the harness or will I have to run separate wiring for all the speakers?

Im no genius either. Most of what Ive learned has come from this thread. No new wiring past what you have already done. The new harnesses should tie everything together. Plug in the harness to the trucks speaker harness, then connect each wire to its corresponding input on the amp using the included instructions.

The wires from the stock HU and the speaker wires are located at the amp under the seat. If you bought the harnesses from James, then it should be plug and play to connect the factory harness to the amp. If not, then you'll have some work to get the factory harness connected.

It may seem a little overwhelming initially so do it small steps. I started with wiring up the amp first. Then removed the factory amp and mounts and then connected everything up. I tested the system by powering it up. Once satisfied, I powered it down and mounted the amp mount and amp. Make sure no wires are pinched when you're screwing down the mount. Sub is really easy. Just 2 wires from the amp to the sub.

I ran mine from the battery across the front through the radiator support and to a distribution block on the RF fender, then I have 2 wires going from there through the passenger firewall. I don't know if that is the best way to run it, but it sure beat climbing over the engine.

The best technical approach is to use the path that allows the shortest run of Power wire (least power loss). If you mount the amp under the driver's seat, then it's best to use the driver's side firewall penetration. If you mount the amp under the passenger seat, then it's probably easier to penetrate the passenger side feedthrough.

This reminds me, when feeding the wire through the grommet nipple use some lube like leather cleaner to reduce friction giggity
