It's been discussed a lot. What sort of info are you looking for? @Darkness made a good thread that would be a good place to start.

I don't have an owner's manual. I guess last thing to check is the back of my diff for the LSD sticker, but from my research I don't believe I have LSD.

Thank you for the link! That's a huge help!

    Thats a great read.

Deming, when asked towards the end of his life how he would like to be remembered says ‘I probably won’t be remembered’, then pauses and goes on to say ‘Well, as someone who tried to keep America from commiting suicide’. Never heard that quote from him before but if its true...

    Prescient.

Do a VIN look up at Toyota.com.

Also, there is a manual section under General Discussion on this website. Go find it.

I did the vin lookup prior and have it pulled up now. No mention of LSD anywhere!

DIFFERENTIAL Oil capacity, L (qt., Imp. qt.): Front 1.15 (1.2, 1.0) Rear Two- wheel drive models 3.80 (4.0, 3.3) Four- wheel drive models 3.50 (3.7, 3.1) Oil type: Hypoid gear oil API GL- 5 Recommended oil viscosity: Front SAE 75W- 90 Rear Above -18°C (0°F) SAE 90 Below -18°C (0°F) SAE 80W or 80W- 90

Above is right from the manual. So does anyone know if I can buy the 80w-90 that's lucas oil for my non-lsd truck. I know it already has the additive, but will that cause any issues? Also, in NE Indiana it can get to less than 0F temp so I'm assuming 80w-90 is the right choice for me. Thanks!

Not sure, but I’ve heard you can use the Lucas in non LS gear boxes. Double check and let us know.

Oddest thing, in the manual for the 2000 tundra it does not list anything for a LSD in the gear oil section. Nothing special. I find that very odd.

Can anyone recommend a good Transmission fluid for a drain and fill? My 04 Tundra needs t-IV fluid.

I think you have a different transmission than my 02 but this thread may help. I would go by what it says on the dipstick or in the owners manual and then just pick a fluid of that type.

I use the above from Harbor Freight and I am happy with them. They have a good thickness, still can feel things well, and I can use my touchscreen phone without removing them.

00-04 has the 4 speed and 05-06 has the 5. It’s the same procedure as yours.

I know the 04 calls for the T- IV fluid while others use the Dex III. Its been a pain finding something that will work for some reason. I'm thinking of going Valvoline Max Life in the red bottle. Anybody use this before?

Your big box should sell some thick nitrile gloves with an open mesh backing. They cost about $10 for a set of 5. Reuseable for weeks at a time. In the summer you get about a week out of them. Throw away once they start to stink.

Bottom line is they are great for working on anything as they have nice dexterity and do not rip. Their nitrile coating makes for excellent grip.

You should get a set of them AND a box of the ‘Jelly Finger’ thin doctors gloves for quick light projects. You can even layer the ‘Jelly Fingers’ over the nitrile when doing greasy oily stuff to save them.

No need to post pics as you have seen what I wear. Black and yellow OR orange and white. Whatever is on sale they are the same. $10.

Good on ya for reading the specs and not following blindly. Check your manual.

From mammory, the Valvoline Max Life T-IV satisfies the earlier gens and your 04’. The 02’ can use your T-IV (AND DEXIII), but you cannot use DEXIII.

I believe the Max Life is synthetic.

Dont worry about it. I name all my vehicles. My truck is Ironman cause hes red and gold, my 13 E250 work van is Bessie cause she's fat, black and white like a cow. All my SHOs are named after pigs cause they're low and fat. My old 10 was turbo pig, GFs 15 is turbo pig part 2(tppt), my 91+ is Porkchop, my busted 92 is broke pig, and my new 91+ is Bacon.

To the best of my knowledge, LSDs weren't available in 2000. My 2001 didn't have one. I don't think they were available until 2003 or 2004.

The 02’ has a LSD. Always felt weird with that sticker on the rear diff so I spray painted over it.

Heller Freshed the floorboards with free insulation and some patented low cost rubber butyl sound deadener. Took 1.3 beers or one hours total time. Cushy cushy on the feet. An added layer of fluff.

Anyone have any idea what this is? Its hard wired, but nothing is pluged into it. Almost like its part of a higher package but left undone as an SR5 2002 4wd. Its on the drivers side next to the parking brake pedal located behind the (removed) side panel.
