Sounds possible for the front. The secondary flap does need to hang between the cab and the bed to shed water, so you'll need to accommodate for that. Honestly you will see how insignificant the screw in buttons are if you end up going with a soft topper.

What is your main reason for not wanting to drill the holes for the buttons?

I don’t want to drill holes in my truck. It’s just not something I do to any of my cars.

After doing some research, it seems like a lot of people secure the front flap with magnets. I’ll probably do that.

    Thanks for the help!

Hey Guys. I have a a frame/canopy for a Tundra CrewMax for sale. I recently purchased a used Softopper for my Tacoma only to find out that the guy sold me bed rails for a Tacoma and a frame/canopy for a Tundra CM. So this sale would be for the frame and canopy only, not the bed rails to attach the canopy to the bed. Open to offers if anyone is interested.

Or better yet, if anyone has a tacoma Softopper they want to trade for a Tundra Softopper... I'm your guy!

    I'm located in Los Angeles

Should toss your location in the post. These things are a pain to ship.

Thanks, I was thinking about doing this. Do you have the bed rail system?

Yes. It came with the bed rail system. And the cover that came with the truck was in poor shape so it didnt hurt me to cut it up.

Is there a way to install a Trackrac with a softtoper? Even if it needs to be hacked in somehow?

Does anyone know if a softopper would work in conjunction with a roll up tonneu? What I am thinking is have the tonneu on year round, then roll it up and install the topper when ready to camp, leaving the tonneu installed but rolled up. Get back from the trip, take the topper off, rails and all, store it and unroll the tonneu.
    Does that seem reasonable?

Ok, I saw that but wasn't exactly sure what i was looking at. I guess my specific question is will the softopper fit over the rolled up tonneu at the front of the bed and still be able to be secured properly.

Yes. You would be able to roll up the tonneu cover but would need to wiggle it a bit. The softopper frame is in the way. Where the frame is is also where the cover velco onto. If that makes sense

I just discovered the Can-Back as another option during my research. They look amazing, but at $2300....that's more than my OTD quote on a hard top.

I like them too, but I could never understand the price.

Is the fabric some sort of unobtainium?

I fail to see if it would work.

The front of the soft topper has a flap that goes between the cab and the box as well as a flap that snaps to the inside of the box.
You would have to have the front if the cover rolled towards the back a little for the ST to work correctly.

Now if you were using one it the other, that would make more sense. Both go on and off pretty quick.

Let me know if I'm missing something.

That's the route I have decided to go. a Roll up tonneu for everyday use and then take it off and put the softopper on when it's time to hit the mountains for a weekend trip.

Speaking of my earlier post, my Softopper ended up staying put away much more time than I had originally thought it would. As such, it's now excess and up for sale. Literally used twice--a one-nighter (as seen below), plus one weekend trip into the Sierras--so it's still in near-new condition. It's been stored wrapped and garaged, and comes with clamps for a 6.5' bed with stock utility tracks. I also special-ordered it with the dark-tint rear window they usually use on the sides of their toppers, rather than the base clear one.

    One Night.jpg

These two pics were taken yesterday in front of the storage locker where it's currently taking up real estate. It's located in western Nevada if anyone's interested. Asking $500 and willing to work with a TDC member-

Nice thing about storing shit in the desert--no moisture, no mildew.

    Edit: SOLD!
