So my elka coilovers and JBA UCAs are giving me about 3.5" inches of lift on each side. From the reading I've done on this forum I feel like I'm going to have CV or CV boot problems and that might be something that's a little beyond my mechanic skills.

These pictures are my CVs. Do they look like they're angled too much? Is it worth pulling the shocks and lowering a half inch? I'm not sure how much of an angle is too much compared to stock, but it sounds like it doesn't take much.

@jberry813 says the front diff drop is worthless... I'm not in a position to argue with him.

3.5 is a lot. The joints look pretty darn angled. Have you driven a lot to settle them?

What you need to do is put a floor jack under the cross member and measure how much down travel you still have. I’ll bet there isn’t much. That will really kill ride quality. I think it is recommended to have 20% downtravel minimum, but more will only help.

On my truck, it rode like crap when my c/o’s were at 3 inches. I turned them down to 2 and ride quality is infinitely better. If i were you I would turn them down one inch each and see how you like it.

Get an angle finder measure what you have. If your curious what the diff drop does measure before and after. Be sure to post result if you do.

Have not driven much... Maybe 50 miles. I'm assuming measuring down travel is center hub to fender and then jack up the cross member until the tires are off and measure the same?

I think im gonna find time to pull my shocks and lower the ride height 3/4" (from 3.5 to 2.75".

It's to much , Here is what a cv looks like on a 6 inch bracket lift.

Yes that is correct on measuring down travel. 50 is enough to settle it. I would turn it down to have longer joint life and better ride

My ride quality is actually pretty good so far... Vastly improved over stock. I'm gonna shoot for 3/4" lower. That should help out quite a bit with CV angle.

I take it your front shocks didnt come with spacers to drop the front differential? Most lift kits do. That angle is pretty harsh.

They did not. But @jberry813 says the front diff drop is not needed or "pointless".

Yikes! :eek2: I'm on a 6" lift mine look nothing like that, just curious, what's wheel n tire setup? So you don't need a diff drop? What about extended knuckles?

You guys are running bracket lifts though aren't you? I'm just running a coilover.

Stock wheel with a 275/70r18 in this picture. Going to a slightly taller tire as soon as I get my suspension the way I want it(285/75r18 on the stock wheel)

Yeah spacer lift, blocks in rear, bought used, didn't know what I was getting into when I bought and learned from being on here, but for the off-roading I do (just beach drives), it works for me

Bringing this thread back to life. Here's my cv angle after front end lift. Does this look reasonable or do you foresee issues down the down? Anyone else have pictures of their 3" lift cv angles to compare?

Did my 4” RC lift, just replaced the CV axles at Toyota after 10k miles. The lift shop did everything but I’m thinking/wondering, could my wheel offset be stretching the CV axle? And that’s why I’m still getting that popping? My angle isn’t bad at all (I’ll post pics in a bit). But could the offset be the culprit?

Still same, holding up ok, I bought the RC extended struts and removed the spacers, ride is a lot softer, angles are the same

your angles should be good if the diff was dropped 4 inches with the 4 inches of lift...

some guys have the 4 inch drop bracket but spacers that lift the truck 6 inches overall

Talked to a rep at RC and they said to install a driveshaft shim. How would that help the CV angle?

Rear driveshaft carrier bearing shim or front shim?
