    Hi guys!

I'm looking at getting some new tires. I've heard great things about the STT Pros and ST Maxxs, so which should I pick? I use my truck as a DD and occasionally pull light trailers with it, but I also use it for off-roading, trails, etc.

I'm leaning towards the Pros as they are $180 less than the Maxxs for a set of 4 and also have $100 MIR vs $70. The only thing the Maxxs seem to have over them is a bit more directional stability from the looks of them. They also might be better on ice than the Pros and obviously have the ability to add studs.

    Thoughts?

Go with the maxxs I had a set and loved them never had any traction issues. One of my buddies ran the pros and only got 17k out of them

Maxx’s will last longer and are better suited for a DD. Can’t go wrong with either though.

I have the PRO and while I love them, I'd never use them as my DD tires. I kept my OEM wheels and tires and swap out when I'm going on a big run.

ST MAXX would be a great DD/offroad middle ground.

I have a set of STT Pros and ST Maxx's. Both have ArmorTek3 sidewalls. Surprised the Pro's are cheaper. The Pro's are usually a bit more $ than the Maxx's with same size and load range. Best of both worlds:thumbsup:

My personal opinion I have Mickey tompson atz p3s and they cost more then the pros and less then the maxxs and so far I'm liking them better the maxxs

Thanks for all of the input guys. Looks like I'll go with the Maxxs. I am thinking they will be more stable on the road.

I'm running on my Maxx's now. Great tire. Pros go back on this summer.

Fyi S/t maxx and mickey thompson atzp3 are both made by cooper. I didnt know that until i was researching which tire to go with. If you look at them they are a lot alike.

Yep...Cooper also owns the Dean Tire private label. The STT Pro's are Coopers flagship off road tire and cost more than the Maxx's.

One helpful reason I went with the STT Pros... much cheaper. And 295/70/17s...

If you Offroad lots, STT Pros are awesome. Much more aggressive than the MAXXs.

I DD my truck with STT Pros... I like the sounds of MTs driving down the road lol. To each their own.

    Both are great tires.

Well, I plan to do quite a bit of offroading this summer. They definitely look more aggressive.

I'm the same with the noise. My current ones are Nitto Trail Grapplers and I kinda like how they hum.

And, I already have a STT Pro as a spare with about 50% left...

Man, I sure like your truck. :D

You gotta be getting rub with 295s, right? What is the offset on your wheels? And why would I go with 295 over 285? Still kinda new to this. :D

The only place I rub is at full lock on the drivers side frame. Just a tad.

I have done lots of trimming near the body mount to help prevent rubbing there.

My wheels are 4.5bs -12mm offset

295s STT Pros are 33.5ish. Just A hair taller and wider than the 285s. But 285s will do just fine. I ran 285 ATPs for ever until I got these...

I’ve had KO2’s, Ridge Grapplers and now have STT Pros. Def no regret.

Great deal on them right now on discount tires. 295/70/18 for $237 each plus a $100 Visa card rebate. Can’t beat that deal for an awesome tire.

So far they handle my daily drive pretty well. They look amazing in LA traffic lol.

If you don't mind the road noise of the Pro's, I would go with them. I haven't heard anything bad about either tire!

Maxx's should definitely last longer though.

Kelly's are a private label tire owned by GoodyearNA and sold at your smaller neighborhood tire stores just like Coopers' Dean Tire brand. Not top tier but also not bad. Reasonably priced tires.

Huh. Yeah, I get rub on both sides on the frame itself. I haven't had any on the body mount buy I did trim the pinch weld back a little. I'm running 2015 4Runner SR5 wheels which show the same specs as yours. Unless the wheel width is different.

Are the certificates offered by Discount Tire worth it? Also, how are they as a tire shop to do regular balance, rotation, etc.? The local one has really good reviews, but it is 45 minutes away.

I always get the certs. If you get one flat, it pays for themselves. Also, if you are traveling or in a location without a discount tire, you can buy the tire and take the receipt to them and they will refund you for the tire...

They sure will. I’ve had it happen twice in the past 4 years.

First I nailed a rock on the Mojave. Blew a huge hole in the side wall.

Second was a sliced side wall from a rock in the Ozarks.

Both times I showed up to Discount, no questions asked and got a brand new one for free...

    Nice! That's worth $22.50 a tire.

Well, I ordered the Pros, should be here tomorrow. I asked my other brother how he likes his and he said he got 60,000 miles out of his last set on his 1 ton Dodge.
