    Hi,

I'm new here and in need of some help. I have a 2011 Limited Edition Tundra with 78,000 miles. My truck went in a body shop around March 1 to have some hail damage removed via PDR. The shop caused 5-6 warning lights (tire pressure, abs, brake, air bag, etc.) on my dash to come on but they were unable to clear the lights so I had to drive truck to the nearest dealership to clear them.

The dealership told me the ABS actuator needed to be replaced and that was causing the warning lights to stay on. They replaced it over 2 weeks ago but they still have my truck because guess what, my warning lights are still on. It is my understanding that the dealership diagnostic software isn't telling the dealership any possible causes/reasons either just like the diagnostic guy at the body shop.

I don't know everything the dealership has done to make a proper diagnosis but I'm inclined to believe they have exhausted all efforts and they don't know what else to do. I haven't had my truck in almost 2 months and I don't know what else to do. My insurance company seems willing to cover the cost to repair and clear the lights but they need to know that the warning lights were caused by their partner body shop. I try to be as respectful as possible but I don't understand how they can even question who caused the lights to come on when in fact we all know the lights were not on prior to me giving them my truck but that's another story. I'm just trying to figure out why all these lights are on so that it can be fixed/cleared. The technician said he checked all wiring harness which looked good. Maybe he overlooked them? Of course there could be other possible reasons also.

*They body shop removed my side mirrors, hood, windshield, rear bumper and they said something about the roof panel. The roof was not replaced by welding on a new roof so I'm not exactly sure what they were talking about when I questioned them about what was removed from my truck. I'm not aware of anything else they removed but I'd guess they probably removed other things.

Have they checked to see if the AIP's were working? I've read that when those go, they cause all sorts of lights to come on that are not related.

Sounds like the body shop is going to be writing a big check

The body shop was willing to cover cost at first but now they are trying to take that back because the dealership is having difficulties making a diagnosis. Also, I'm not footing the bill for ABS actuator. So yea, the body shop knows this will be a costly fix.

I'm taking my truck to a different dealership tomorrow though. I already spoke to them and they are pretty certain they can make a quick diagnosis and fix. I also spoke back to the body shop and got a clearer understanding from the manager. He said the roof was replaced. Now that I know that, I believe that's where the problem is - wire harness. The first dealership was wasting time. They didnt even bother to ask me for the work order report from the body shop until after they had my truck for 2 weeks. They also just recently spoke to the body shop. Seems like they should have made a better/quicker effort to contact the body shop since they were not getting ANYWHERE with my truck.

I will follow up here after my truck gets to the second dealership.

Second dealership made a diagnosis within 3 hours. I have a speedometer installed that went bad. I'm still convinced the body shop caused it. Its difficult for the dealership to trace where/how it actually went bad because there are many possibilities, therefore the body shop didnt own up to it right away when I told them. The body shop said they would call me back. The dealership and I believes it went bad due to some sort of electrical charge the body shop caused. I called the manufacturer of the speedometer and the tech department said those things should last the lifetime of the vehicle. They've had some installed on vehicles and still working since the 90's. Mines has been on for only a few years.
