our needs change...I love my DBHD but...

Seems I need height in bed more frequently. Also moving to South Carolina which I’m hoping means some camping. Then add in options for this beloved dog.

Let’s talk cab high toppers with racks (ladders, lumber etc)

    I know I need:
    Rack system (reinforced)
    Win-doors
    Airflow
Secure (I will hook up alarm)
    Quality

Any help as I begin research would be appreciated!
    Thank you
Pic for the hell of it

I have never understood tonneau covers or similar bed covers. A canopy is so much more practical.

I’d get one with a factory installed rack, with load rating.

I think you gotta be pretty tall to utilize windoors.

Front flip down slider window and regular sliding windows is my preference. And regular framed back door on the canopy instead of the frameless SUV kind of window.

I just got a new ARE. If I could do it over I would get a brand that sits on the rails and doesn’t wrap down and cover the bed rails. Like my old ARE v series on my taco. Way easier to fit and not mark up/ scratch paint on your bed.

The DB is fantastic but my usage changed or is changing. The DB is vault like safe too.
If a quality shell adds up to $4k... it’s going to be a tough call.

Thanks for input. I’m 6’ tall. I’d rather have a handy 2’ step on side of truck to reach in than crawling on my 61 year old washboard abs. Lmao

    Snug top quote

    $4020 all in. Lmao

    $360 to install
$120 to install pop n lock (for shell lock?)
$120 an hour for these technicians?
    Rebel model.

Just trying to get an idea of pricing.

For reference I paid $2110 for an ARE v series with carpet, sliding windows, front fold down slider and Yakima rack system. CX series was $20 or $40 dollars more. Plus my time and heartburn to file/grind the underside/corners so that the shell doesn’t damage my paint. My dealer says he’s only the middleman so it’s not their fault it doesn’t fit. Hope you have better luck with snugtop.

I really like my DB, vaulted storage, and I put loads on it. But a color matched Snugtop on a DC with a rack would look badass! Sell the DB, you'll get $1500+ towards the topper.

That’s exactly what I want. Just not $4 large

($2k for the DB with HD headache rack. Cost $2500 and year old)

How’s the build quality of ARE Overland? It is promoted as more durable. Any thoughts?

Base Leer shell could work, but if you want a rack and windoors, it gets spendy. Not $4k, but still pricey.

The diamond back made sense for my crewmax... With the power rear window and the added height of the diamondback, I am able to slide longer boards through the back. I usually run toppers on my trucks and I have had good luck with century and leer. Be sure to get a removable sliding window in it so you can take it out and clean the glass without taking off the topper.

Looks just like a v series to me except it has sprayed bedliner for the look. Online info says the spray liner increases strength in high stress areas. Marketing.

Looked at thread pix, . I’d go nuts. Thanks for posting this!

I called that ad. Long story short told to sales guy I drive through PA frequently and would pick it up. He said stop by and we will show you the toppers. I said “you always let $$ walk away? Bye”

Dude, put together a quote, I like I give my card. We meet when I pick it up.
