They’re both doing perfect! I love having them on my truck.

Used the search and found no pic by pic.

Just got my PUTCO Blade and Curt Harness.

Are people pulling their tailgates off to install these PUTCO Blades?

Installing 3M tape to brackets and then installing on the truck?

What height /position of the blade? Dead center height wise?

    Lots of question pre-install.

Park on a level surface. Before I removed the tailgate, I looked to see where it would be most visible. Mine is installed dead center. After you apply one of your center brackets, it is best to use a level so you can lineup your others brackets so you have a straight “blade” of light.

What I did was install painters blue tape across the mounting area. This will give you a place to mark your mounting placement. I would have your tailgate in the down position to make sure the tailgate doesn’t hit the led. Plus if you decide to have tailgate down for anything while driving it doesn’t block the led. Just a few suggestions. Best of luck with your install.

    Thanks @Storm [op] and @1UPPER!

Use of a level is brilliant and like the tailgate being down.

Had a Line-X premium bedliner sprayed yesterday Hd to drive with the tailgate down Or if you use a bed extender

Installed my 60" PUTCO Blade with the Curt adapter.
    • Had to use a 12 gauge tap-in splicer to connect the PUTCO controller's white reverse wire to the center thick wire on the end of the adapter going out to the external plug end
    • Definitely take off the tailgate - made it a lot easier to work and line the LED strip up
    • Grab a bunch of 10-12" zip ties so you can "mount" the LED controller box onto your lower bumper framing - want to keep it stable
    • Definitely a lot of electrical tape as you can tuck the white tapped in reverse wire into the Curt adapter's wire loom
    • Make sure your Curt adapter is zip tied away from your spare tire - so when you check the pressure on that spare, you don't damage your LED light harness.
    DONE!

Mine broke. The flasher on the drivers side doesn’t work (turn signal or hazard). Sent videos to their warranty department but haven’t heard back. Anybody ever deal with a warranty issue with them?

Don’t know. Went into Toyota for service so they turned the hazards on per normal. I saw that the one side was out. Then I tested it when I got home. Brake and reverse work fine. There are a few random LED’s out as well across the bar.

    Not nearly enough room here!
I broke a couple Brackets installing mine when it was too cold to be messin' with it. They promptly sent me 4 more at no charge. You should stay on them till you contact the right person at Putco.

Does anyone know if this will interfere with the RCTA using the harness and attaching it to the hitch harness? Another words, will this make the computer think there is a trailer connected to the hitch and start throwing off the RCTA? I'm about to order this Putco light and harness.

No, the RCTA works just fine with the Blade and harness!

Very nice!!...I been on the phone with RealTruck, AutoAnything, my Toyota dealer and even Toyota Corp and nobody could answer my question believe it or not!!

You purchased yours off of Amazon including the harness?

Putco themselves wanted $209 for the light and $60 for the harness. Got a better deal with RealTruck and AutoAnything but these 2 websites got a lot of bad reviews.

I purchased the light and harness directly from Putco. I only went through them because I wanted their harness which is plug and play with the reverse wire which I thought was nice. I didn’t want to splice any wires on the new truck.

So the reverse wire doesn't need to be spliced into and harness wiring?...how does that work and thanks for your response btw.

Yeah I seen your post about that before. Like the OP, I'm not crazy about splicing into wires in my new truck as well. I wired up bed lights, grill lights and LED 8” lights on my bull bar. I didn't even touch the fuse boxes. Ran direct to battery with inline fuses at the battery. It all works well.

Correct, the Putco harness allows you to use the 7 pin connector as the harness has a white wire which connects to the blade’s white wire.

Ahhhhh...very good. Yeah its worth the money to bypass splicing. Thanks a lot for all the information. Greatly appreciated and your truck looks real nice!!

I remember the Putco harness was a lot more than the Curt where I am, the answer to splicing is in this thread and all it takes is a posi-tap, no cutting the factory wire in case any future buyers want to save a bit.

I didn’t purchase this brake light but one was given to me for my birthday. Installed it with the Curt harness from Amazon. Had a question if anyone can help chime in. Mine came with a white wire thats supposed to be the reverse lights does anyone know how or where to install that one?

Not to reign in on the Putco Quick Connect Harness parade, but the claims about a plug and play 7-pin adapter TO INCLUDE REVERSE are FALSE. You get a 7-pin to 4-pin & 7-pin adapter, but you get no plug in connections for the white reverse wire, nor the black 12v wire on the harness. Those 2 wires are bare wires that must be stripped/tapped into and hardwired into either 1) the factory reverse 7-pin harness (voiding electrical components warranty anyone?) or 2) the tailight reverse wire (voiding electrical components warranty anyone?). I have written statement from Putco saying this so. I would very much appreciate for someone to prove me wrong, and then show where they bought it in the last 30 days. Misleading at best, had to return one bought from Amazon and Home Depot due to misleding description as well as the the 60" Blade product as well. I repeat unless you want a plug and play 4 function (not 5 function for reverse) buy the Curt harness for half the price because it will do the same job, 4 function without hardwiring the reverse light.

Can you hook me up with a quality T-tap or equivalent product link, because then I'll use it on the Curt Harness, thus avoid doing it on the factory harness or tailight.? Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

I actually used these pigtails. There’s a gel in there that makes it water tight once you clamp it

Did you tap into the factory harness, the Curt adapter or other, or the Tailight?
