I definitely had to tonight. The instructions said it may be required and I tried both sides without it, but had to trim off material in the areas highlighted in the pictures below. 07452485-97EF-404B-B6FB-FE3747BD6169.jpg41685450-6E5B-49C2-BB20-8976E1CA789C.jpgF800E8A0-4FBB-407A-BF5C-B2456680FDDC.jpg5397BD4C-9620-45BD-8FD5-D10E28DE7938.jpg

Both sides look the same to me; but I tested 4x4 with all four wheels off the ground and the passenger side front doesn't spin. The driver's side front does though. Here's what they look like. as info, neither side has any play when I try to wiggle the axle by hand.

I believe that his the behavior of an open differential.... Only one wheel spins. I'm sure it's more complex than that but that is what we see.

Thanks to everyone who provided their insights. I edited the original post to summarize my own lessons learned for posterity's sake.

Excellent write-up! Didn’t realize the lower shock mounts on some of these don’t fit and require grinding part of the LCA. Anyway, truck looks great!

Thanks! And thanks again for your tips. Kudos to you for getting this done solo. You must be a super human and I would love to shake your hand.

Ha! No, it helps to have been shade-tree wrenching for a decade or two. But I’ll admit I’ve had my share of major screw-ups going it solo!

Thanks! I'll get some more pics up when I get it cleaned up and get the wheel rings back on.
