    Bilstein 5100 middle setting.
Slight rub in reverse at full lock, trimming about 1” off the front fender liner fixes it.

Normally I'm not a huge fan of 285/75/17's on our trucks. They usually look like they have too much sidewall IMO but on your truck, they look just right!

No such thing as too much sidewall for trucks that actually get off the pavement.... Hint,, it's a truck not a pavement princessIMG_20190303_165201.jpg

Visually, yes there is IMO and not all trucks go off-road... Hint, some people buy trucks to haul stuff, not to go off-roading

    What?! Too much sidewall? Blasphemy!!

Just kidding! It’s all subjective. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. I see 20” wheels with lower profile tires are very popular with newer trucks. But I’m in my 50’s and old school and don’t like change. I never could get used to that trend. I prefer a smaller rim with more sidewall for a better ride and less chance of blowing a bead when aired down in sand or an off-camber trail.

I personally think 285/75/17s are one of the better sizes for our trucks. They’re just shy of 34” in diameter, and lighter, a bit less expensive and easier to fit than heavier 35s which may require a bit more cutting. That said, I may go up in size in a few years, but for now this size tire is serving me well.

Yes it is. I'm not much younger then you and I agree with you that 20's have too little sidewall. I also agree that on paper, the 285/75/17 is a great size and it's one of the sizes I'm considering. If I was an off-roader, it would probably be top of my list but I'm not. I bought my truck to haul shit, not off-road and I'm only looking for slighter larger tires to give my truck a better, more aggressive look but I don't want kill the ride quality, gas mileage or my wallet too much.

The 285/75's probably have a great ride with that much side wall but in some tire designs (like the Cooper XLT's that I've been leaning towards) remind me of the old school balloon tires from 1930's era cartoons. That and too much side wall on the street tends to start having a negative effect on handling. A 10ply E rated tire will counteract that a lot but I really don't want E loaded rated tires. Again, if I off-roaded or towed great but I don't so for me, E rated tire are just heavy and stiff for no good reason.

Its all a compromise between ride, performance, weight, cost and yes looks. Just trying to figure what that happy middle ground is for my ride?

Right now I'm leaning towards 285/70/17s in either KO2 or RG's. That size is still taller, wider and more sidewall then the factory 275/65/18's and with +25 rims (Icon Rebound's), it will give me the wider more aggressive stance I want without having to lift it and the KO2 or RG's because Cooper doesn't offer the XLT's in C load rated version.

If I lift it in the future, I can always go larger tire wise later

I hear ya! Excellent points all the way around. I haul stuff, too, so I don’t want to go too big. Otherwise, loading and unloading then becomes a pain. The good thing is that we can choose and customize to our liking and needs. I will say that 285/70/17 seems to have a lot more of a selection and was less expensive when I considered that size last year.

Does anyone have 17's and run 275/70's. I'm leaving my truck stock height. The 275/70 is extremely close to the overall height to what I'm running now, just a tiny bit shorter.

5100s at middle setting. Stock Rears. 285/75/17 with Icon Rebounds. Moved fender liner forward and removed mud flaps because of very slight rub at full lock in reverse.

maybe im overthinking right it right now on 17s but wondering with the clearance on the brake caliper how it has affected anyone offroad any damage from rocks getting stuck in between the caliper and the wheel? i live in the south east so not as much desert running but wooded trails and mud ect... really wanting to pull the trigger just some questions i had before doing so lol

20190323_121647.jpg No issues with mine. Just make sure when they're balanced any weights are positioned in this area, otherwise they could interfere.
I kinda think the gap between lends itself to not allowing any debris to get caught between. Perhaps look at the bright side, bigger gap=better chance of something getting caught between. That plus rest easy in the fact that many true offroad guys run the 17's for their benefit offroad.

35/12.50 R17 on Icon Six Speed wheels. No cab mount chop, only rubs top of wheel well at full compression.

Looks like I’m joining the crew.
Just got the Method MR312s in 18x9
All the pics showed a nice deep look
A tiny bit disappointed after having them on. Found out all pics are of 0 offset or negative offset. Made some phone calls. Got the 17” 0 offset and Trail Grappler M/Ts in 35x12.5 coming in of same rim!
