Has anyone ever replaced the roof molding? Is it difficult? Where can I purchase? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Mine always blow off when I go through the car wash. I was told it’s a common problem. I’ve used some e6000 to keep the on and it seems to be working for now..

The attached file may or may not be of help. It is a Tech Service Bulletin specifically addressing problems with 2013-2015 Tundra roof moldings, but I expect the installation procedures are the same, or at least similar, for all Tundra roof moldings. Use what's helpful, ignore the rest. BUT...Be sure to verify correct part numbers for your application.

I replaced the drivers side on my 2017 after it getting ripped off in a car wash and cracked the front clip on the way off. I put some extra 3m double sided tape on it when I installed. Also the replacement clip in the front didn't have any adhesive or anything on it, not sure if it was supposed to, but used some double sided tape on that too.

I still haven't bought mine - I feel bad...I don't think it's adhesive, I think they snap into place, which is why they fly off. Maybe use some 3M adhesive after cleaning the channel to make sure it stays put?

I think it might come with a few small patches of tape, I forget. There is a clip that it snaps into on the front and it sits under the rsar window trim in thr back. I bought a new clip since it cracked the original when it came off. I THINK this clip is supposed to be held on with adhesive, but mine was not sticky at all (It almost felt waxy, so I actually heated it up to see if it was supposed to 'melt' into place, it just charred). I bought some 3M outdoor rated double sided tape and used that to install both the clip and the trim piece, putting the tape on most of the length of trim. It has withstood a WI winter so far...

A drive through car wash is what took mine out originally. I think I've been through it once after the new install.

Thanks for all the info. My roof mouldings have just worn out over time (not attacked by vultures). I'm going to give a shot at replacing them myself. Just hope I order the right ones!TundraRoofMoulding.jpg

With or without the sunroof, the molding part numbers are the same (See link below. Items 10 and 11 conspicuously absent from sunroof parts list because they are the same). Better to run this past @Roman to make sure you get all the attachment clips you need.

I’m not one to fix something that isn’t broke, but is it feasible to remove the trim, add double sided tape, and reinstall as a preventative measure? Or is it one of those things that are destroyed during removal? Thanks,

Yep, they're the same part numbers either way. Here's a link to the clip, in case you need it:

    I
Used the same stuff! And took some pliers and pinched the metal bracket together a little tighter. I only used that glue on the rubber where it meets the bracket though.

I also used some 303 to turn the rubber black again. Cheap and works well.

The clips snap in. There's a small pad on one side, but it does not have adhesive on it.

Forum newbie here but thanks for all the info, I have been having one of these fly off of my 2012 CrewMax in the car wash lately and can't figure out how to get it to stay put. Will try what that technical bulletin suggests, or maybe some adhesive

Wow! My silver 2013 CM has been kept outside in the Mississippi and Hawaii sun since it was new and it looks fine.

I wonder if they used different manufacturers at some point?

Both sides are missing on my '14 CM. My guess is blowers in carwashes but who knows.

I replaced my driver side just the long rubber strip, clips were still there, and the pass side was still there. Took about 5 minutes cause I had to open it. Super easy to do just went to Toyota and bought.

On 2007 CM front side is just some simple clips and rear is with double sided tape. Mine were faded so I pulled them off, rubbed them down pretty good with some mr clean sponge to take off the haze then quick coat of black trim paint. put on new heavy duty 30 lbs double sided tape for the rear and put them back on.

Quick question regarding the molding. Is there any harm in not having the molding at all? I plan to replace my missing driver side molding, but the local dealership is charging $72 for this small piece of rubber/plastic. Online is 52 and I hope they will price match when I pick the part up.

I am just curious if water can infiltrate the roofline or windshield if the molding is not installed. My tundra currently resides under a carport so this is only exposed when I am driving in the rain.

    Thanks.

i think its aesthetic more than anything else. its where the spot weld runs between your roof and door sills
