My wife and I will be moving relocating to the Seattle area from the Space Coast of Fl. I have a 2016 CM that will be pulling a 7x16 Lark enclosed trailer that I purchased used (formerly a lawn service rig). My wife’s 2004 4Runner (120k mi excellent condition) will not be pulling anything. We will be moving in June (best weather scenario?!?). We have chosen to drive through the country with stops in outer Nashville, Des Moines, Rapid City, and Butte. All roughly about 9 hours apart. All help, information, and suggestions are welcomed.

Used trailer, you might want to check those tires and service wheel bearings and check brakes.

    good luck

When you hit Des Moines, stay in Altoona and eat at Jethros BBQ. May as well do the The Adam Emmenecker Challenge while you are there.

Rapid City is a cool place to hang and explore!! Lived there 4 yrs. Downtown RC has all kinds of venues. Great food and drinks. Of course, the obligatory “tourist” stuff as well...

Mt Rushmore, Bear Country...too many to list. Lead/Deadwood is a little casino town just west of RC up in the Black Hills Old west feel, lots of good eats, gambling, shows/concerts, events.

And so??? Not interested in your politics. To answer your question, we fell in love with the pac west and what it has to offer ( climate, hiking, mountains, nearby travel destinations, etc.) After 32 years of Florida the heat and influx of population leaves a sour taste. Google Florida man btw, trust me it’s a very real thing. Living close to Seattle allows our careers to thrive, and accessibility to a metropolitan area ie like Orlando is for us now.

People love to shit on the west coast. Don't worry about what others think.

What type of advice are you looking for? Nashville will have traffic that will rival anything you see in Florida. Try to hit it at a non-peak time. Unless you're also going to sight see I would avoid the busiest areas and snag a hotel in one of the nicer suburbs.

That will be a scenic ride for sure!
I moved from the Space Coast to Texas 2 years ago with everything I owned packed in a trailer I bought from Mowlco in Cocoa. It’s a little nerve wracking but was a fun ride.
Good luck on the trip!

Just any advice that I haven’t thought of traveling that distance I guess. I have a buddy that owns a bar in Cool Springs that we’ll probably visit. It’s probably best to stay outside of Nashville, ( for ease of travel) right?

Oh yeah, especially on that long of a drive with a loaded down trailer. I Had to have been damn near, or over the weight limit on my trailer so I was worried a tire would let loose at some point...

Yeah I would probably avoid Nashville. I would make sure you have multiple spares for the trailer and just nail down any maintenance on the vehicles ahead of time.

Loaded down trailer, if it doesn’t already have it, weight distribution hitch and sway control. Good tires, lube hubs and check brakes. Enjoy the move!

Yeah I have one spare, but all things considered, youre probably right. It wouldn’t hurt to get another. Good call.

Thanks! I don’t have a weight distribution hitch. Do you think this is essential?

Any heavy trailer should have a WDH with sway control in my opinion. I haven't had the pleasure of owning one or towing one regularly yet, however I have before and the difference is night and day. Boy Scout troop trailer approx 7-7500 lbs dual axle towed 110% better with the WDH than without.

A simple one like a pro series from e trailer with friction anti sway would be well worth it, about $260. With friction anti-sway you can’t really turn with it so you have to stop on the highway on and off ramps to either tighten or loosen it but it should make the long drive much better on you. Only thing that has to be drilled and bolted is the anti sway ball mount on the trailer tongue. The other brackets are set screws. You could also go without sway control.

    https://www.etrailer.com/Weight-Distribution/Pro-Series/PS49903.html

I’m no expert, but I do know it will improve the towing experience significantly. Have a safe move

I pulled a fully loaded 7x16 when i moved from des moines to bettendorf without a wdh and the truck handled it without skipping a beat. I second the jethros comment from earlier or Smoky D's BBQ which is right off the interstate.

In Seattle I never miss eating at the Wild Ginger, on 3rd ave, just down (southwest) from the Pike Place market. Have some satays, and finish off with ginger ice cream.

Check spare tire pressure before you hit the road, and don't forget the phone chargers in the cab (just in case, and you will get separated on the interstates at times. Use the Waze app as well. I know what you mean about FL being crowded. I'm in the Tampa side. I wish I could move at times lol. I spent 5 years stationed in Montana.....beautiful areas out west.

Good idea about checking the spares. A year ago I check spares in all three vehicles and all were low, one critically.

Make sure all your fluids are topped off on the vehicles especially windshield wiper fluid. I have crossed the U.S. a couple times and the bugs in the deserty areas are huge and messy..

My brother in law used to say "don't be so concerned about a long drive cross country; it's just like a lot of short drives together".
    But I still take precautions.

We close on our home in SW Missouri and are moving to Washington this June. I've driven to Washington several times on I-70, I-80, and I-90. I prefer I-90 because to me it's the smoothest and has less big city traffic issues. Good Luck!

Expect to have some construction between Butte and Seattle on I-90, probably nothing that will bring you to a stop, but could encounter one-lane sections. Wave as you drive through Spokane! :yay:

Oh, and don't forget to let your insurance company know so you'll be sure and be covered, and let your bank know so you don't get somewhere and your debit card doesn't work due to suspected fraud.
